Deyo Earns 5K All-American Honors on Final Day of NCAA's

THE BASICS:

- Location: Geneva, Ohio (SPIRE Institute)

- The Lead: Graduate student Matthew Deyo (Syracuse, N.Y.) made a late push to finish seventh in the 5,000 meters on the final day of the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship to cap off the three-day event for the Engineers. MIT finished in a tie for 72nd place in the team standings as the team posted two points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Sitting just outside the top eight entering the final laps, Deyo made a late push in the race and crossed in a time of 14:30.80 to earn All-American accolades. For Deyo, this marks his third and final All-American honor of the year as he was also recognized during the cross country and indoor track and field seasons.
