THE BASICS:
- Location: Bates College - Lewiston, Maine
- The Lead: On Saturday at the Slovenski Indoor Track at Bates College, the No. 8 MIT men's indoor track and field team defeated Bates College and Colby College in a tri-meet. The Engineers totaled 100 points, followed by Bates at 62 and Colby with 19. Overall, MIT picked up 10 event wins and had two performances that rank among the top 15 in the nation.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the triple jump, senior William Ruschel (Bethel Park, Pa.) won the event with a jump of 46 feet, two inches as his leap currently ranks him No. 15 in the country. In the distance medley, the MIT team of junior Alex Knapp (West Chester, Pa.), freshman Dylan Doblar (San Jose, Calif.), sophomore Billy Woltz (Logan, Ohio) and freshman Jake Jorgensen (Devon, Pa.) won the event and are ranked seventh in the nation as the team ran 11:06.07 and had its time converted to 10:57.15.
- Sophomore Chris Washington (Frisco, Texas) and sophomore Alec Reduker (Newburyport, Mass.) tied for the win in the high jump at six feet, four inches as MIT swept the top four spots. In the pole vault, junior Scott Cameron (Dublin, Ohio) was victorious with 14 feet, 5.25 inches, while Ruschel won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 4.75 inches.
- Senior Tre Albritten (Plano, Texas) won the 200 meters by .24 seconds with a time of 22.77, while sophomore Kenneth Acquah (Tenafly, N.J.) was the winner in the 400 meters in 54.04. Sophomore Simon Alford (Dublin, Ohio) captured the 800 in 2:00.26, while junior Josh Rosenkranz (Glencoe, Ill.) picked up a victory in the 3,000 meters as he crossed in 8:49.13.
- Senior Chris Sweeney (Woodland Park, N.J.) won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.78 seconds, while junior Jon Fakkema (Blaine, Wash.) had a pair of second-place showings in the shot put (43 feet, 9.25 inches) and weight throw (54 feet).
