No. 8 Men's Track and Field Wins the Bowdoin Invitational

THE BASICS:

- Location: Farley Fieldhouse at Bowdoin College - Brunswick, Maine

- The Lead: On Saturday at the Bowdoin Invitational, the No. 8 MIT men's track and field team finished with 174.50 points to defeat Tufts by 42.50 points as the Engineers also defeated Bowdoin, Merrimack and Southern Maine behind six event victories.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Senior William Ruschel (Bethel Park, Pa.) finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 48 feet, 2.5 inches to rank fourth in the nation currently. He was also second in the long jump as he posted a jump of 21 feet, 6.25 inches.

- Junior Aidan Gilson (Florence, Mass.) won the mile in a time of 4:16.51 to win by .96 seconds and is ranked third in the nation as his time is converted to 4:13.28. Junior Josh Rosenkranz (Glencoe, Ill.) was third in the mile, crossing in 4:20.46 that was converted to 4:17.18 and is 18th in the country.

- In the 5,000 meters, senior David Walter (Middleville, Mich.) won the event in a time of 15:17.85 as three Engineers placed in the top five. Senior Alex Knoedler (Canon City, Colo.) was third overall, crossing in 15:35.74.

- Sophomore Alec Reduker (Newburyport, Mass.) won the high jump with a season-best leap of six feet, eight inches as he is currently ranked ninth in the nation. Sophomore Chris Washington (Frisco, Texas) was third as he cleared six feet, four inches for the second straight meet.

- In the 4x800 relay, junior Nathan Munet (Elkhart, Ind.), freshman Kent Slaney (Palo Alto, Calif.), freshman Dylan Doblar (San Jose, Calif.) and sophomore Simon Alford (Dublin, Ohio) won in a time of 8:00.24.

- Junior Jon Fakkema (Blaine, Wash.) captured the weight throw with a distance of 53 feet, five inches to go along with a third-place finish in the shot put at 47 feet, 2.25 inches. Sophomore Albert Menio (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) finished third overall with a personal-best throw of 50 feet, 0.75 inches.

- Junior Scott Cameron (Dublin, Ohio) won the pole vault with a height of 14 feet, 11 inches, followed by freshman Liam Ackerman (Miami, Fla.) in third with a height of 14 feet, 5.25 inches.

- Junior Dennis Maloney (New Albany, Ohio) was second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:32.94 as the Engineers had three runners in the top five. Maloney's time is converted to 8:27.05, which ranks him fifth in the nation. Senior Chris Sweeney (Woodland Park, N.J.) placed second in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.46, while freshman Mohan Rajagopal (Harrison, N.Y.) was third in the 600 meters with a finish of 1:27.58.
