Bratten Leads Men's Track at Field at NEICAAA Championship

THE BASICS:

- Location: Memorial Field (Dartmouth College - Hanover, N.H.)

- The Lead: At the NEICAAA Championship at Dartmouth College, the MIT men's track and field team finished 11th out of 36 scoring teams with a total of 29.50 points. Leading the way was senior Cody Bratten (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) as he claimed the New England Championship in the discus.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Bratten is now eighth nationally and second all-time at MIT with his winning throw of 169 feet, two inches in the discus. Junior Jon Fakkema (Blaine, Wash.) was 20th in the event, throwing 131 feet, one inch. Bratten was also ninth in the shot put at 49 feet, 4.5 inches to narrowly miss out on scoring, while Fakkema was 14th in the hammer at 165 feet, six inches.

- In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the Engineers were led by a runner-up performance from junior Aidan Gilson (Florence, Mass.) in 9:09.62 as he is now ninth nationally. Senior Ben Freed (Frederick, Md.) is now ranked No. 13 with a time of 9:13.48 to finish eighth, while sophomore Brian Bates (Corning, N.Y.) crossed in 18th place at 9:31.57.

- Senior Chris Sweeney (Woodland Park, N.J.) qualified for the 400-meter hurdle final in 53.20, which ranks him 15th in the country. In the final, he placed fourth with a time of 54.06 seconds. Freshman Benton Wilson (Dublin, Ohio) finished in sixth place in the 200 meters in a time of 22.07 after finishing second in his heat in 21.96.

- Scoring in the high jump was sophomore Chris Washington (Frisco, Texas) as he tied for sixth with a height of six feet, five inches. In the triple jump, senior Ryan Prinster (Boulder, Colo.) placed 13th as he leapt 42 feet, nine inches. In the pole vault, junior Scott Cameron (Dublin, Ohio) finished 11th as he cleared 14 feet, 5.25 inches.

UP NEXT:

- The Engineers are back in action next week for the team's final meet prior to the NCAA Championship as the team hosts the MIT Final Qualifier at the Sherie and Don (1961) Morrison Track. That meet will begin at 5 p.m.
