Shaoul, Gilson Lead Men's Track and Field on Saturday at the NCAA Outdoor Championship

THE BASICS:

- Location: Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex (La Crosse, Wisconsin)

- The Lead: Led by All-American showings by freshman Yorai Shaoul (Raanana, Israel) and junior Aidan Gilson (Florence, Mass.), the MIT men's track and field program finished with a total of nine points and a tie for 38th place at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Shaoul shattered the MIT rookie record by 27.5 inches and the school record by just over two feet to finish second in the triple jump with a leap of 51 feet, 8.5 inches. His record-setting jump came on his third attempt as he was second by just 5.25 inches. The rookie also finished as the national runner-up in the triple jump at this year's inadoor nationals. Senior William Ruschel (Bethel Park, Pa.) also competed in the triple jump as he finished in 19th place with a leap of 45 feet, 0.5 inches.

- Gilson, who was an NCAA qualifier for the second straight season, picked up his first All-American award in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he crossed in eighth place in a time of 9:16.04.
