No. 12 Men's Track and Field Wins Seven Events at the Triangle Classic

THE BASICS:

- Location: Springfield College Fieldhouse (Springfield, Mass.)

- The Lead: The No. 12 ranked MIT men's indoor track and field team picked up seven event wins on Saturday at the Triangle Classic at Springfield College. There were no team scores kept at the meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- First-year William Woltmann (Secaucus, N.J.) led five top-10 finishers in the shot put with a personal-best of 50 feet to win the event. Senior Jon Fakkema (Blaine, Wash.) was second with a PR of 49 feet, 7.25 inches, followed by first-year Ryan Nall (Lafayette, Calif.) in third at 47 feet, 8.5 inches and first-year Nathan Basinger (Dalton, Ohio) in fourth at 45 feet, 7.75 inches. Both throws for Nall and Basinger were personal-bests. Junior Albert Menio (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) was eighth in the shot, posting a throw of 42 feet, 3.5 inches.

- Fakkema placed second in the weight throw at 55 feet, 9.25, while Menio was fourth (49 feet, one inch), Woltmann was ninth (43 feet, 10 inches) and Basinger placed 10th (43 feet, 7.75 inches).

- First-year Caleb Harris (Franklin, Tenn.) matched his PR of six feet, 6.75 inches to win the high jump, followed by junior Steven Speck (LaGrange, Ohio) in third with a PR of six feet, 4.75 inches. Senior Feyisope Eweje (Jacksonville, N.C.) finished fifth, clearing six feet, 0.75 inches.

- On the track, first-year Aiden Foucault Etheridge (Leverett, Mass.), junior Simon Alford (Dublin, Ohio) and first-year Matthew Kearney (Austin, Texas) earned individual event victories in the 600, 1000 and the mile. Etheridge ran a time of 1:23.45, while Alford crossed in 2:32.10 and Kearney ran 4:22.22. In the 1,000, senior Aidan Gilson (Florence, Mass.) was second at 2:34, while junior Billy Woltz (Logan, Ohio) was sixth at 2:42.28 and first-year Reed Foster (Palo Alto, Calif.) placed seventh at 2:43.85. In the mile, first-year Alec Nguyen (Rosemead, Calif.) finished in fifth with a time of 4:38.29.

- The Engineers also picked up a pair of relay victories in the 4x400 and the distance medley relays, crossing in 3:25.25 and 10:26.16, respectively.

- Senior Scott Cameron (Dublin, Ohio) led four Engineers in the top 10 of the pole vault as he was second at 14 feet, 5.25 inches. Junior Raja Rajcic (Lubbock, Texas) and sophomore Max Hardy (Houston, Texas) tied for third at 13 feet, 11.25, while sophomore Everett Brandyberry (Hill City, Kan.) cleared the same height and finished in sixth.

- In the long jump, Joachim Kennedy (Nashville, Tenn.) was fourth with a PR of 21 feet, 3.25 inches and was followed in ninth by first-year George Stultz (Frederick, Md.) at 20 feet, seven inches. Kennedy was also sixth in the 60-meter hurdle finals in 8.80 seconds. He ran a PR of 8.76 seconds in the prelims.

- Sophomore Ellery Rajagopal (Harrison, N.Y.) crossed in third in the 800 with a PR of 1:58.53, followed in eighth by first-year Matt Schofield (Shorewood, Ill.) in a PR of 2:00.12. Sophomore Jake Jorgensen (Devon, Pa.) placed fifth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:55.90 and first-year Alexander Liu (Belle Mead, N.J.) was eighth in the 200 at 23.76 seconds.
