NATIONAL CHAMPION! Shaoul Claims the Triple Jump Title to Lead No. 6 Men's Track and Field to Seventh-Place Finish

THE BASICS:

- Location: Reggie Lewis Athletic Center (Roxbury, Mass.)

- The Lead: Led by a national championship in the triple jump by sophomore Yorai Shaoul (Raanana, Israel), the No. 6 ranked MIT men's track and field team placed seventh overall at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championship. Over the two days, the Engineers had seven All-American performances and finished with a total of 22 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Shaoul took control in the triple jump right away as he leapt 49 feet, 11.25 inches on his first attempt, marking his season-best. He surpassed the 15-meter mark three times in the event, but his mark stood for the victory by nearly nine inches. Shaoul is the ninth MIT men's indoor track and field student-athlete to capture an individual national championship and the first for an MIT student-athlete student overall since 2015-16. He is also the first men's indoor student-athlete to claim a title since Uzoma Orji in the shot put in 2005-06.

- Senior Aidan Gilson (Florence, Mass.) earned his first career NCAA indoor All-American honor as he finished in fifth with a time of 4:09.69. His two fastest laps were the final two, including a 28.881 lap in his seventh to make up some ground and pick up four points for the Engineers.
