THE BASICS:
- Location: Jess Dow Field (New Haven, Conn.)
- The Lead: On Saturday, the No. 9 ranked MIT men's track and field team finished 13th overall with a total of 21.50 points over the two-day event at Southern Connecticut State University. The Engineers ended the meet with five NEICAAA All-Region performers.
HOW IT HAPPENED ON FRIDAY:
- On Friday, the Engineers were led by two scorers in the pole vault as senior Scott Cameron (Dublin, Ohio) and sophomore Liam Ackerman (Miami, Fla.) finished in fifth and sixth place, respectively. Cameron cleared 15 feet, 5.5 inches, while Ackerman posted a height of 14 feet, 11.5 inches.
- Junior Gabriel Madonna (Tyngsborough, Mass.) narrowly missed scoring with a ninth-place throw of 187 feet, seven inches, while sophomore Benton Wilson (Dublin, Ohio) was second in his heat and fifth overall in the 200-meter prelims at 21.71 seconds.
- As a team through day one, the Engineers were 14th overall with a total of 6.50 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED ON SATURDAY:
- In the high jump, junior Chris Washington (Frisco, Texas) was the top finisher of the day for MIT as he placed third at six feet, five inches. Sophomore Benton Wilson (Dublin, Ohio), who qualified in fifth for the 200-meter finals, ran a time of 21.73 seconds and finished fourth overall.
- Senior Jon Fakkema (Blaine, Wash.) placed fifth in the discus with a distance of 154 feet, eight inches as that throw came on his fifth attempt. First-year William Woltmann (Secaucus, N.J.) narrowly missed out on scoring as he was ninth with a toss of 50 feet, 6.25 inches.
