Five Event Wins Fuel No. 9 Men's Track and Field at Final Qualifier

THE BASICS: 

- Location: Sherie and Don (1961) Morrison Track (Cambridge, Mass.)

- The Lead: At the MIT Final Qualifier Meet on Thursday night, the No. 9 ranked MIT men's track and field team picked up five event wins and solidified its group of NCAA qualifiers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Sophomore Benton Wilson (Dublin, Ohio) was a double-winner with victories in the 200 and 400-meter races. Wilson took the 200 in a time of 21.92 seconds, along with 48.33 in the 400.

- Sophomore Liam Ackerman (Miami, Fla.) moved up five spots to No. 6 nationally in the pole vault as he won the event with a season-best height of 16 feet, 3.5 inches. Senior Scott Cameron (Dublin, Ohio) was fourth at 14 feet, 11.5 inches, while sophomores Everett Brandyberry (Hill City, Kan.) and Max Hardy (Houston, Texas) tied for seventh at 13 feet, 11.75 inches.

- Junior Alec Reduker (Newburyport, Mass.) picked up the victory in the long jump and moved up to No. 16 in the nation with a season-best leap of 23 feet, 8.75 inches. He will enter the NCAA Championship at the top seed in the high jump as well as he cleared the seven-foot mark earlier in the season at home.

- First-year William Woltmann (Secaucus, N.J.) won the shot put with a season-best throw of 52 feet, 5.25 inches that is ranked No. 27 nationally. Junior Chris Washington (Frisco, Texas) finished fourth in the high jump at six feet, five inches and senior Jon Fakkema (Blaine, Wash.) was sixth in the discus with a toss of 147 feet, five inches.

- The Engineers return to action on May 23-25 at the NCAA Division III National Championship. The meet will be hosted at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio and the final qualifiers will be announced on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. via press release on www.ncaa.com.
