No. 7 Men's Track and Field Claims the D3 New England Outdoor Championship

THE BASICS:

- Location: Lee Track (Williamstown, Mass.)

- The Lead: At the Division III New England Championship, the No. 7 MIT men's track and field team captured four individual titles and the team championship as the Engineers finished with a total of 139.5 points over the three-day event. The top eight performers in each event earned D3 All-New England honors.

HOW IT HAPPENED ON FRIDAY:

- MIT held the day-one lead as the Engineers posted a total of 44 points.

- Sophomore Yorai Shaoul (Raanana, Israel) captured his second-straight New England D3 long jump championship as he posted a mark of 23 feet, 9.5 inches. Junior Alec Reduker (Newburyport, Mass.) was second in the event with a jump of 23 feet, 0.5 inches.

- Junior Gabriel Madonna (Tyngsborough, Mass.) was fourth in the javelin as his third throw of the finals went for a distance of 179 feet, five inches.

- In the 10,000 meters, senior Josh Rosenkranz (Glencoe, Ill.) finished second with a time of 31:40.73 and he was followed in third by sophomore Finn Jacobson-Schulte (Lakeville, Minn.) at 31:42.51. Junior Josh Derrick (Winnetka, Ill.) crossed in fifth place as he ran a time of 32:05.09.

- Junior Albert Menio (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) earned All-New England honors in the hammer throw as he was sixth with a throw of 161 feet, one inch.

- In the 110-meter hurdle prelims, sophomore Joachim Kennedy (Nashville, Tenn.) won the third heat and finished second overall in 15.10 seconds to advance to Saturday's final.

HOW IT HAPPENED ON SATURDAY:

- On Saturday, Shaoul made it a double for the second straight year as he won the triple jump with a leap of 49 feet, 5.5 inches to go along with his earlier long jump title.

- In the high jump, Reduker claimed the New England crown with a clearance of six feet, eight inches to lead three Engineers in the top eight. Junior Chris Washington (Frisco, Texas) placed fourth with a jump of six feet, six inches and first-year Caleb Harris (Franklin, Tenn.) tied for fifth at six feet, four inches.

- Sophomore Benton Wilson (Dublin, Ohio) won the 200 in a time of 21.56 seconds that ranks him 20th in the country. He also finished third in the 400 in 48.62, while first-year Nick Duchatellier (Dix Hills, N.Y.) was fifth in the 400 in 49.54 seconds.

 

- The Engineers had three All-New England honorees in the shot put as first-year William Woltmann (Secaucus, N.J.) led the way in third place at 49 feet, 11.25 inches. First-year Ryan Nall (Lafayette, Calif.) placed fourth with a throw of 48 feet, 7.25 inches as he was followed by first-year Nathan Basinger (Dalton, Ohio) in seventh at 46 feet, 6.75 inches.

- Basinger was fourth in the discus with a throw of 146 feet, one inch, while Menio placed sixth at 144 feet, five inches. In the pole vault, sophomore Liam Ackerman (Miami, Fla.) was fourth with a clearance of 14 feet, 7.5 inches, with sophomore Max Hardy (Houston, Texas) finishing seventh with an identical height.

- In the 4x800 relay, the team of first-year Aiden Foucault Etheridge (Leverett, Mass.), sophomore Ellery Rajagopal (Harrison, N.Y.), first-year Matt Schofield (Shorewood, Ill.) and junior Simon Alford (Dublin, Ohio) placed second with a time of 7:49.48. In the 110-meter hurdle finals, Kennedy finished in fifth with a final time of 15.43 seconds. First-year Andrew Shao (San Jose, Calif.) scored in the 400-meter hurdle finals as well, running 56.75 seconds to finish seventh.

- Junior Steven Goldy (Centennial, Colo.) finished fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:05.17, followed by first-year Andrew Mah (Newton, Mass.) in eighth in 15:11.89.
