THE BASICS:
- Locations: BU Track and Tennis Center (Boston, Mass.); Johnson Athletic Center Indoor Track (Cambridge, Mass.)
- The Lead: Over the weekend, the No. 8 ranked MIT men's track and field team competed at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at BU and hosted the Art Farnham Invitational. At the Art Farnham Meet, the Engineers picked up a pair of event wins.
HOW IT HAPPENED AT BU:
- In the 5,000 meters, sophomore Andrew Mah (Newton, Mass.) ran a time of 14:58.17 to finish sixth in his heat. Sophomore Zach Johnson (La Crescenta, Calif.) crossed in 15:26.39, placing 15th as Mah's time ranks 25th nationally after being converted to 15:07.78 for a flat track.
- First-year Sam Acquaviva (Newburyport, Mass.) was first in his heat of the 3,000 meters in 8:35.30, followed in second by first-year Lowell Hensgen (Raleigh, N.C.) in 8:36.78. After the times were converted, Acquaviva is ranked 27th nationally and Hensgen checks in at No. 32.
- Junior Ellery Rajagopal (Harrison, N.Y.) won his heat of the 800 in 1:56.60, which is ranked No. 42 in the country when converted to 1:58.27. Junior Benton Wilson (Dublin, Ohio) is 31st nationally in the 400 after he placed fourth in his heat in 49.66. His time was converted to 50.46 as he was 36th out of 126 finishers. First-year Nisarg Dharia (Novi, Mich.) was third in his heat of the 400, crossing in 51.33 seconds.
- In the 500, sophomore Nick Duchatellier (Dix Hills, N.Y.) was third in his heat in 1:06.12, while sophomore Matt Schofield (Shorewood, Ill.) finished second in his heat of the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:31.47. Duchatellier placed 26th overall out of 61 runners in the 500 and Schofield was 28th out of 81 finishers.
- Senior Albert Menio (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) was ninth in the third flight of the weight throw. He finished ninth overall out of 40 finishers with a throw of 54 feet, 7.25 inches.
HOW IT HAPPENED AT THE ART FARNHAM INVITATIONAL AT MIT:
- First-year Steven Marquez (El Centro, Calif.) earned his first career win in the high jump as he cleared six feet, five inches and is ranked No. 38 nationally. Sophomore Ryan Nall (Lafayette, Calif.) is ranked 37th in the country in the weight throw as he posted a distance of 53 feet, 3.5 inches.
- Sophomore Andrew Shao (San Jose, Calif.) won the 200 meters in a time of 23.31, followed in fourth by first-year Mozi Guobadia (Katy, Texas) at 23.87 seconds. Shao was fourth in the 60 meters as well at 7.39 seconds, while first-year Nic Minudri (Moscow, Idaho) finished second in the 60 in 7.33 seconds.
- Junior Finn Jacobson-Schulte (Lakeville, Minn.) finished second in the 5,000 meters in 16:10.23 and senior Bobby Upton (Wexford, Pa.) was second in the pole vault with a height of 14 feet, 5.25 inches.
- Sophomore Nathan Basinger (Dalton, Ohio) was third in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 2.25 inches. First-year Henry Sobieszczyk (Newton, Mass.) was fifth in the event, posting a distance of 44 feet, 1.5 inches. First-year Jeremiah Budiman (Plano, Texas) placed third in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 10.75 inches.
