THE BASICS:
- Location: Springfield College Fieldhouse (Springfield, Mass.)
- The Lead: At the Springfield Triangle Classic, the No. 6 ranked MIT men's indoor track and field team captured five event wins as the team prepares for next weekend's New England Division III Indoor Championship.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the 400 meters, sophomore Nick Duchatellier (Dix Hills, N.Y.) led an MIT sweep of the top three as he won the event in 50.66 seconds. Junior Benton Wilson (Dublin, Ohio) finished second at 50.92, followed by first-year Nisarg Dharia (Novi, Mich.) at 51.39 seconds.
- Sophomore Aiden Foucault Etheridge (Leverett, Mass.) captured the 800 meters in 1:58.04, followed closely by junior Ellery Rajagopal (Harrison, N.Y.) in third at 2:00.01. First-year Mozi Guobadia (Katy, Texas) won his section and was fifth overall in the 200 meters in 23.35 seconds.
- Sophomore Ryan Nall (Lafayette, Calif.) led a 1-2-3 sweep in the shot put as he posted a winning throw of 47 feet, 11.75 inches. Sophomore Nathan Basinger (Dalton, Ohio) was right behind him in second at 47 feet, 8.5 inches and first-year Henry Sobieszczyk (Newton, Mass.) placed third at 44 feet, 10.75 inches.
- Nall was second in the weight throw at 57 feet, one inch and Basinger was second with a distance of 52 feet, 6.5 inches.
- In the distance medley relay, MIT is ranked 34th nationally as the team of first-year Sam Acquaviva (Newburyport, Mass.), first-year Evan Schaefer (Frederick, Md.), junior Kent Slaney (Palo Alto, Calif.) and sophomore Matthew Kearney (Austin, Texas) ran a time of 10:37.47.
- Sophomore Ryan Wilson (Redwood City, Calif.) won the mile as he crossed in a time of 4:24.19. First-year Sanjay Ramam (Seattle, Wash.) was second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:55.77, followed in fifth by sophomore Zach Johnson (La Crescenta, Calif.) in 9:04.41. Slaney also finished fourth in the 1,000 as he crossed in a time of 2:37.95.
- Senior Bobby Upton (Wexford, Pa.) finished second in the pole vault with a height of 15 feet, one inch as three Engineers were in the top five. Junior Max Hardy (Houston, Texas) placed fourth with a clearance of 14 feet, 7.25 inches, followed in fifth by junior Everett Brandyberry (Hill City, Kan.) in fifth at 14 feet, 1.25 inches.
