Four Top-20 National Marks Lead No. 5 Men's Track and Field at Tufts Cupid Challenge

THE BASICS: 

- Locations: Gantcher Center (Medford, Mass.) 

- The Lead: At the Tufts Cupid Challenge, the No. 5 ranked MIT men's track and field team posted four top-20 nationally-ranked marks and captured nine event wins. First-year Kenneth Wei (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) swept the long and triple jumps, including the fifth-ranked leap in the country in the long jump. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Wei took the long jump with a distance of 23 feet, 8.25 inches and is ranked 23rd nationally in the triple jump with a winning leap of 46 feet, 5.25 inches. His jump is the MIT rookie record and is ranked second all-time at MIT.

- Senior Bobby Upton (Wexford, Pa.) won the pole vault and had a personal-best by 10 inches as he is now ninth in the country with a height of 15 feet, nine inches.

- The MIT 4x400 relay team of first-year Nisarg Dharia (Novi, Mich.), sophomore Nick Duchatellier (Dix Hills, N.Y.), sophomore Andrew Shao (San Jose, Calif.) and junior Benton Wilson (Dublin, Ohio) won the event and is 11th in the country with a time of 3:22.32.

- In the high jump, senior Chris Washington (Frisco, Texas) won the event and is 16th in the country as he cleared six feet, 8.25 inches. First-year Steven Marquez (El Centro, Calif.) was fourth with a height of six feet, 4.75 inches.

- Sophomore Andrew Mah (Newton, Mass.) won the 3,000 meters in a time of 8:32.62 and is 24th nationally as three Engineers finished in the top five. Sophomore Matthew Kearney (Austin, Texas) crossed in fourth at 8:44.74, followed closely by first-year Lowell Hensgen (Raleigh, N.C.) in fifth at 8:49.77. 

- Sophomore Ryan Nall (Lafayette, Calif.) won the weight throw on his final attempt as he posted a toss of 55 feet, 7.75 inches. Senior Albert Menio (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) was second at 55 feet, 5.5 inches and sophomore Nathan Basinger (Dalton, Ohio) placed fifth with a throw of 50 feet, 5.25 inches.

- Basinger was fourth in the shot put with a distance of 46 feet, 2.75 and first-year Henry Sobieszczyk (Newton, Mass.) placed fifth at 45 feet, 9.25 inches.

- Wilson won the 200 meters in a time of 22.32 seconds, while sophomore Reed Foster (Palo Alto, Calif.) captured the 1,000 meters in 2:33.13. Duchatellier crossed in fourth in the 400 meters, posting a time of 50.89 seconds.

- MIT is back in action next weekend as the Engineers host the Gordon Kelly Invitational on Saturday, February 15th beginning at Noon. MIT will also compete at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University as that meet takes place on February 14-15.
