The Lead: The MIT women's swimming and diving team opened up the 2021-22 season with a resounding 223-77 win over Springfield on Saturday. The Engineers won 15 events at the meet.

- MIT grabbed the top-two spots with the team of first-year
Katearina Augustyn (Eau Claire, Wisc), junior
Edenna Chen (Colorado Springs, Colo.), first-year
Kaleigh Spears (Fairhope, Ala.) and sophomore
Melody Wen (Cary, N.C.) touching the wall first with a time of 3:56.40.

Miri Griffin (Centennial. Colo.) took home the top spot for MIT as she finished with a time of 10:54.87 in the event.

- The top-two spots in the event belonged to Engineers with first-year
Iris Yang (Seattle, Wash.) taking first with a time of 58.53 followed by senior
Laura Rosado (New Haven, Conn.) who touched the wall with a time of 1:00.00.

100-YARD BREASTSTROKE
- MIT swept the top-three spots led by E. Chen who took first with a time of 1:04.78. Senior
Danielle Fang (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) finished second with a mark of 1:09.52 followed closely by graduate student
Sara Nicholas (Wilmette, Ill.)Â with a time of 1:09.97.

- First-year
Jolie Kim (Englewood, Colo.) took home the top-spot with a time of 2:00.58 while junior
Jennifer Xiong (Brookfield, Conn.) finished in third with a time of 2:01.52.

200-YARD BUTTERFLY
- It was another sweep of the top-three spots for MIT as
Angelina Zhang (New York, N.Y.) won the event with a time of 2:10.94 while first-year
Stella Shipps (Cedar Park, Texas) came in second with a mark of 2:11.24. Spears finished third with a mark of 2:12.88.

- Bjornstad captured third with a time of 25.35.

100-YARD FREE
- Wen took home the top-spot finishing with a time of 54.69 while Griffin came in third with a time of 55.01.

200-YARD BACKSTROKE
- Rosado won the event with a time of 2:09.65 while Augustyn came in second with a mark of 2:10.43.

200-YARD BREASTSTROKE
- Nicholas won the event for MIT with a time of 2:31.55 while Fang came in second, clocking in at 2:33.62.

100-YARD BUTTERFLY
- MIT took spots 1-3 with Shipps leading the way with a time of 1:00.03 followed by Yang (1:00.54) and McGrath (1:01.65).

200-YARD IM
- Augustyn (2:11.01), Zhang (2:12.29) and Griffin (2:13.63) swept the top spots for MIT.

200-YARD FREESTYLE RELAY
- The top-two spots belonged to MIT with the team of Wen, Shipps, Xiong, Bjornstad taking first with a time 1:39.20 while Yang, sophomore
Miranda Cai (Cranbury, N.J.), McGrath and Chen coming in close behind with a time of 1:39.88.

- Kim won her second event of the day as she touched the wall with a time of 5:19.04.

1-METER DIVE
- The Engineers took home the top-three positions, led by first-years
Ava Dijstelbloem (Rose Valley, Pa.) and
Rachel Loh (Arcadia, Calif.) who finished with scores of 265.95 and 243.31. Junior
Katelin Du (Scarsdale, N.Y.) finished third with a score of 233.39. Dijstelbloem's score qualifies the first-year for the NCAA Regionals.Â

3-METER DIVE
- Loh took home the top spot with a score of 258.53 and was followed by Dijstelbloem (248.24) and Du (234.38) to complete the sweet for the Engineers.
