Women's Swimming and Diving

Women's Swimming and Diving Sits in Second After Day One of Winter Invite

THE BASICS:
 
- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Zesiger Center Pool)
 
- The Lead: On day one of the MIT Winter Invite, the No. 9 MIT women's swimming and diving team sits in second place out of seven teams with a total of 226 points. Tufts sits in first at 240 points, followed by RPI in third (131), Wheaton in fourth (105), Wellesley in fifth (68), Keene State in sixth (48) and Simmons in seventh (4).
 
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
 
800 Freestyle Relay
- In the 800 free relay, the team of first-year Iris Yang (Seattle, Wash.), first-year Miri Griffin (Centennial, Colo.), first-year Katearina Augustyn (Eau Claire, Wis.) and senior Laura Rosado (New Haven, Conn.) finished third with a time of 7:40.63. The Engineers B relay was close behind in fourth as junior Edenna Chen (Colorado Springs, Colo.), senior Lindsey Bjornstad (Mequon, Wis.), junior Jennifer Xiong (Brookfield, Conn.) and first-year Chloe Swanson (Minneapolis, Minn.) touched in a time of 7:47.44.
 
1,650 Freestyle
- In the 1,650 free, first-year Jolie Kim (Englewood, Colo.) finished second and hit an NCAA B Cut with a time of 17:29.04 in the 27-swimmer field. Sophomore Aria Eppinger (Pittsburgh, Pa.) also placed in the top 10 as she finished in 18:14.96.
 
One-Meter Diving
- The Engineers dominated the one-meter board on Friday night with six in the top 10, including a sweep of the top three as each of the three earned NCAA Regional qualifying scores. Junior Katelin Du (Scarsdale, N.Y.) won the competition with a score of 271.45, followed by first-year Ava Dijstelbloem (Rose Valley, Pa.) in second at 257.55. First-year Rachel Loh (Arcadia, Calif.) capped off the sweep in third with a final score of 256.60.
 
100 Backstroke Time Trial
Augustyn hit a NCAA B Cut time in the time trial as she finished with a time of 56.16 seconds.

- MIT is back in action at the Winter Invite on Saturday and Sunday as both days feature morning trials beginning at 10 a.m. and evening finals starting at 6 p.m.
