The Lead: The No. 9 MIT women's swimming and diving team set three program records, won four events, was the runner-up in two races, recorded five NCAA "B" cut times, and posted two NCAA qualifying six-dive scores on the second night of the MIT Winter Invitational on Saturday. The Engineers, currently in second place out of seven teams with 878 points, saw junior
Edenna Chen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) break the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard individual medley records while first-year
Katarina Augustyn (Eau Claire, Wis.) set a new Institute standard in the 400-yard individual medley.

200-Yard Freestyle Relay
- The "A" relay of sophomore Melody Wen (Cary, N.C.), senior Olivia McGrath (Chevy Chase, Md.), senior Laura Rosado (New Haven, Conn.), and senior Lindsey Bjornstad (Mequon, Wis.) was the runner-up, finishing just over a second after Tufts University, logging an NCAA B-cut and a 2019 invited time of 1:34.65. The time also ranks seventh in Division III.
- The "B" relay was fifth in 1:36.14. Sophomore Miranda Cai (Cranbury, N.J.), sophomore Evelyn Peters (Fort Mill, S.C.), Augustyn and Chen epresented the Engineers.

200-Yard Butterfly
- Sophomore Sydney Chun (Chandler, Ariz.) finished third with an NCAA B-cut time of 2:04.87, which ranks ninth in the country.
- Junior Angelina Zhang (New York, N.Y.) was fourth in 2:05.76.

200-Yard Freestyle
- First-year Miri Griffin (Centennial, Colo.) was fourth in 1:53.74.

100-Yard Breaststroke
- Chen won the event in 1:00.93, missing the NCAA A-cut by .26 seconds, but earned a B-cut, eclipsed the 2019 invited time, and set a new program record. Her performance currently ranks first in Division III.
- Graduate student Sara Nicholas (Wilmette, Ill.) was third in 1:05.70.

100-Yard Backstroke
- First-year Iris Yang (Seattle, Wash.) was the runner-up with time of 57.41.
- McGrath was third in 58.23.
- First-year Kaleigh Spears (Fairhope, Ala.) finished fifth with a time of 58.73.

400-Yard Individual Medley
- Augustyn won the event in 4:25.88, resulting in a B-cut, a 2019 invited time, and a new program record. Her performance currently ranks ninth in the country.
- Zhang finished fourth with a time of 4:32.68.

50-Yard Freestyle
- Bjornstad finished fifth in 24.31.

400-Yard Medley Relay
- The "A" relay, comprised of Augustyn, Chen, Spears, and Bjornstad, won the race in 3:48.28. The time ranks seventh in the country, is an NCAA B-cut, and a 2019 invited time.
- The "B" relay finished fifth with a time of 3:56.42. Yang, Nicholas, Chun, and Wen represented the Engineers.

Women's 3-Meter Diving
- First-year Rachel Loh (Arcadia, Calif.) won the event with 294.00 points.
- Junior Katelin Du (Scarsdale, N.Y.) was the runner-up with 270.95 points.
- Junior Megha Maran (Elk Grove, Calif.) finished third with 258.00 points.
- Loh and Du recorded NCAA qualifying six-dive scores.

TIME TRIALS
- Chen set a program record in the 100-yard individual medley, finishing in 58.56.

OVERALL STANDINGS:

- After tonight's session, No. 10 Tufts University is in first place with 912 points, followed by MIT (878), Wheaton College (460), RPI (326), Wellesley College (249), Keene State College (121), and Simmons University (30).

- The Engineers return to the pool tomorrow morning for the final day of the 2021 MIT Winter Invitational. Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. and finals will start at 6:00 p.m. Events scheduled for Sunday are the 200-yard medley relay, 500 -yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard breaststroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, and 400-yard freestyle relay.
