Men's Tennis Recruiting Class Ranked Sixth in the Nation

Cambridge, Mass. (August 9) -- The MIT men's tennis incoming class has been ranked by TennisRecruiting.net as the No. 6 Division III recruiting class in the nation, with the Engineers adding a trio of four-star first-years with Daniel Antov (Austin, Texas), Wayne Nelms (Baltimore, Md.) and Ryan Xiao (Cary, N.C.).
 
"This is an amazing group of players in this year's recruiting class," said MIT head coach Dave Hagymas. "I couldn't be prouder to have them as part of our team and MIT family. This class will be a foundation for our future success and I look forward to watching them grow as players and people over the years."
 
Antov, a graduate of Westwood High School, helped his team to the state championship and was a three-time Level 3 national champion. Ranked among the top 100 nationally, Antov was a four-time Academic All-District performer, two-time recipient of the Hardest Worker Award and the 2017 Newcomer of the Year. He was a two-time team captain, a member of the National Honor Society and a National Merit Commended Scholar.
 
Nelms, who graduated from K12 Private Academy, was the National L2 Sea Colony Doubles winner, advanced to the National Clay Courts Doubles Round of 16 and was third place at L3 Nationals. His class salutatorian, Nelms was the National Honor Society President, a College Board National Recognition Program Scholar and did volunteer tennis work with military veterans.
 
Xiao, a graduate of Green Hope High School, was a four-time varsity letter winner and ranked No. 51 nationally on TennisRecruiting.net. His class salutatorian, he was a member of the 2019 State Champion team, won the 2019 State Sportsmanship Award and played No. 1 singles and doubles. Xiao was the team MVP, team captain, a member of the National Honor Society and the Math Honor Society and an AP Scholar with Distinction.
 
This marks the sixth time overall and third straight year that MIT has been ranked in the top 10 as the Engineers have been nationally-ranked in 11 of 12 classes since the rankings were created.
