Perron Named as Head Equipment Manager at Holy Cross

Cambridge, Mass. (January 21) -- Nick Perron has resigned his position as the assistant varsity equipment specialist and assistant football coach and has accepted the head equipment manager position as the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. Perron begins his duties at Holy Cross on January 24.

"The last 10 years at MIT will forever be a special time in my life and I will take a lot of happy memories with me," said Perron. "The conference championships and the wins will always be great to think about, but the connections with the student-athletes over the years will be special. Not only are they some of the smartest people that I've gotten to work with, they will always be the toughest. To do what they do in the classroom at MIT, then walk out to the practice and witness their hard work and dedication they have in their sport is awesome. Thank you to all of the athletes, these years never felt like work. I also want to thank our Parent's Association as we could not have the success in the program without them. What they do for us behind the scenes is amazing."

Perron has been a member of the MIT staff for the previous 10 years, working as an assistant football coach and a variety of other positions in the department. Most recently, he coached the football wide receivers and was the assistant varsity equipment specialist, but also served as the assistant director of member services with MIT Recreation before moving into his equipment room role.

"Nick has been a valuable and well-respected member of both the equipment room staff and MIT Football coaching staff here in DAPER for over 10 years," said Erica Scoppettuolo, director of varsity equipment room operations. "We are grateful for his dedication and contributions to the department. We wish Nick the best of luck in the next stage of his career as head equipment manager at Holy Cross."

On the football field, the Engineers claimed an NEFC title in 2014 and back-to-back NEWMAC Championships in 2018 and 2019 as the team advanced to three NCAA Tournaments. This past season, the Engineers had nine players named to the NEWMAC All-Conference Teams, including a pair of wide receivers with Ben Dwyer (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and Dennis Gastel (Lincoln, R.I.) as the team posted a fourth straight winning season at 5-4.

"Nick has been an integral part of the MIT Football Family for the past decade" said MIT football head coach Brian Bubna. "He has worked with every aspect of our program during his time in Cambridge; offense, defense, special teams, recruiting, football operations and equipment. In his 10 seasons mentoring the Engineer receiving corps, his group has rewritten virtually every single receiving record in program history. Nick's dedication to MIT Football and his mentorship to our student athletes has helped to shape our program and will not be forgotten."

Perron graduated in 2004 with a B.S. in business administration with a concentration in sport management from Nichols College. A three-year starter during his time at Nichols, he was a part of the Bison program that competed in the 2000 ECAC Championship Game and won the Boyd Division Championship of the New England Football Conference in 2001.

"To Coach Bubna and the rest of the coaching staff, I thank you for having me be a part of the program and giving me the opportunity to contribute to our success," said Perron. "To Erica and staff in the equipment room, thank you for all the help and guidance, and for giving me the opportunity to obtain this position. Thank you to everyone in DAPER. The culture in the athletic department is great to be a part of. I will miss MIT, but I am excited for my new opportunity at Holy Cross!"
