- Records: No. 19 MIT (22-5, 10-0 NEWMAC), Coast Guard (18-7, 5-5 NEWMAC)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Rockwell Cage)

- The Lead: The No. 19 MIT women's volleyball team finished the regular season undefeated in NEWMAC play after defeating the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 25-18, 25-10, 25-15, on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Set 1: After a back-and-forth start to the set that saw Coast Guard take a 6-5 edge, a kill by senior Alyssa Unell (Scottsdale, Ariz.) kicked off a string of six unanswered points that put MIT ahead for good. The Bears stayed close as they came within two points on two occasions, the last at 13-11 on a kill by Shannon Shaw. A kill by junior Emily Cheng (Sunnyvale, Calif.) followed by back-to-back kills from junior Consecrata Rozario (Cary, N.C.) created some breathing room for the Engineers. An exchange of points followed until an MIT hitting error trimmed Coast Guard's deficit to 18-15. The Engineers gradually pulled away but a pair of miscues once again brought the Bears within three (21-18). MIT capitalized on two Coast Guard errors, a block by Rozario and Cheng, and an ace by senior Emma Suh (Santa Monica, Calif.) to secure the victory.

- Set 2: Tied at two, a hitting error by the Bears sparked an 11-1 run that was capped with a kill by senior Lilly Edwards (Kansas City, Mo.). The Engineers maintained a comfortable cushion as they cruised to a 25-10 win.

- Set 3: MIT jumped out to a 9-1 advantage which grew to 24-14 after a kill by first-year Ali Gibbs (Chagrin Falls, Ohio). A hitting error by the Engineers extended the frame, however, they quickly replied with a kill from sophomore Ella Gragg (Morganton, N.C.) to win the match.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Sophomore Lauren Keller (Albuquerque, N.M.) posted a match-high nine kills while Unell and Edwards both recorded seven kills and hitting percentages of .667 and .538, respectively. Cheng dished out 30 assists as Suh and junior Ashley Margetts (Brownsburg, Ind.) both registered two aces.

- Sophomore Ottavia Personeni (Bethesda, Md.) led all players with 14 digs as senior Sofie Kupiec (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) contributed five digs. Rozario bolstered the defense with two blocks.

- Shaw paced Coast Guard with eight kills while Noelle Tursky tallied nine assists and six kills. Maeve Duffin distributed eight assists as Kaela France collected eight digs. Elizabeth Atkinson rounded out the Bears with two blocks.
