The Lead: Following a month-long break, the MIT men's indoor track and field team produced two victories and a trio of runner-up performances at the Suffolk Ice Breaker on Saturday. In addition, the Engineers produced 22 Division III New England Championship qualifying performances.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior
Pablo Arroyo (Richardson, Texas) led the entire race in his mile victory, finishing in 4:13.38. Junior
Ziyad Hassan (Ashburn, Va.) was third (4:13.88), followed by graduate student
Lowell Hensgen (Raleigh, N.C.) in fifth (4:17.37), senior
Jacob Hansen (Bountiful, Utah) in seventh (4:20.13), and junior
Sam Amin (Olympia, Wash.) in eighth (4:23.80). Hassan's performance resulted in a personal record by three seconds.
- Sophomore
Sean Huckleberry (San Francisco, Calif.) won the triple jump with a leap of 45-1.5.
- Junior
Pau Ilerbaig-Bajona (Toronto, Canada) had a great negative split to finish second in the 800 meters and record a personal best of 1:57.63. First year
David Whitaker (Northville, Mich.) was next across the finish line as he logged a time of 1:58.74. Sophomore
Jack DeBaugh (Severna Park, Md.) rounded out MIT in seventh place (2:00.1).
- Graduate student
Sam Acquaviva (Newburyport, Mass.) was the runner up in the 3,000 meters (8:16.82) while first year
Yichen Sun (Chapel Hill, N.C.) ranked sixth (8:46.98).
- First year
Anthony Meng (Scottsdale, Ariz.) finished second in the high jump with a height of 6-6.75.
- In the 60 meter hurdles, graduate student
Kenneth Wei (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) finished third (8.23), followed by junior
Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas) in fourth place (8.30), and sophomore
Enoch Ellis (Garland, Texas) in seventh (8.50).
- Sophomore
Nathan Shapiro (Glenview, Ill.) was third in the long jump with a leap of 22-9.
- Sophomore
Nolan Clement (Fullerton, Calif.) tied his personal record in the 60 meters with a time of 6.95 to finish fourth overall.
- Graduate student
Mozi Guobadia (Katy, Texas) led the 200-meter contingent by finishing fifth in 22.37. Clement was next in ninth place (22.61), followed by sophomore
Kristian Praizner (Folsom, Pa.) in 10
th (22.66), sophomore
Patrick Haertel (Cumming, Ga.) in 13
th (22.67), and sophomore
Conrad Casebolt (Aurora, Colo.) in 14
th (22.67). Haertel and Casebolt both set PRs in the event.
- MIT's 4x400 mixed relay, comprised of Praizner, senior
Paige Cooksey (Ormond Beach, Fla.), junior
Olivia Dias (East Taunton, Mass.), and first year
Connor Sterling (New Milford, Conn.) finished fifth with a time of 3:40.33.
- Junior
Sam Engebretson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) was fourth in the weight throw (56-8.5) and fifth in the shot put (52-7.5) while first year
Connor Kalvar (Floyd's Knobs, Ind.) finished eighth in the weight throw (52-0.5).
- In the 1,000 meters, sophomore
Charlie Glass (Austin, Texas) was ninth in 2:29.77, resulting in a personal record by four seconds.
- Senior
Mark Mosser (Lakeville, Minn.) ranked 10
th in the pole vault with a height of 12-5.5.
- Praizner produced personal records in his heat of the 60 meters (7.15), in the 200 meters, and as the lead-off leg of the 4x400 mixed relay.
