THE BASICS:
 
- Event: Suffolk Ice Breaker
 
- Location: The TRACK at New Balance (Boston, Mass.)
 
- The Lead: In its first competition in over a month, the MIT women's indoor track and field team recorded a trio of runner-up finishes at the Suffolk Ice Breaker on Saturday. In addition, the Engineers produced 15 Division III New England Championship qualifying performances.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- In the mile, sophomore Lexi Fernandez (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) was the runner-up with a sub five-minute performance (4:59.19) in her first meet of the season. Sophomore Katherine Sanderson (West Hartford, Conn.) was fourth in 5:05.41 while classmate Rujuta Sane (Chandler, Ariz.) was 10^th (5:08.87) as she set a personal record by eight seconds in the first indoor meet of her career.
 
- First year Olivia Girand (New York, N.Y.) finished second (10:27.97) the 3,000 meters as junior Christina Crow (Mercer Island, Wash.) ranked fourth (10:42.90).
 
- Sophomore Nony Otu Ugwu (Katy, Texas) set a personal record and was the runner-up in the triple jump with a leap of 37-6.75.
 
- In the high jump, senior Tolu Akinbo (Naperville, Ill.) ranked third (5-3) while first year Amalia Christina Toutziaridi (Athens, Greece) finished fifth with a height of 5-1.
 
- Sophomore Krystal Montgomery (San Jose, Calif.) finished fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.88.
 
- Sophomore Hailey Surace (Snohomish, Wash.) was fourth in the pole vault and tied her personal record with a height of 11-5.75.
 
- In the shot put, junior Alexis Boykin (Clayton, Ohio) ranked fourth (43-7) while classmate Emily Ball (Des Moines, Iowa) was eighth (39-8.75).
 
- In the weight throw, Boykin placed fourth (60-6.5), followed by Ball in ninth (51-7) and sophomore Lilia Ould-Hammou (Metuchen, N.J.) in 13^th place (44-3.5).
 
- MIT's 4x400 mixed relay, comprised of sophomore Kristian Praizner (Folsom, Ga.), senior Paige Cooksey (Ormond Beach, Fla.), junior Olivia Dias (East Taunton, Mass.), and first year Connor Sterling (New Milford, Conn.) finished fifth with a time of 3:40.33.
