Men’s Track and Field Has Strong Showing at URI Invitational

THE BASICS:

- Event: URI Invitational

- Location: Mackal Field House (Kingston, R.I.)

- The Lead: Facing primarily Division I programs, the MIT men's indoor track and field team generated nine top-10 performances at the URI Invitational on Saturday, highlighted by junior Sam Engebretson's (Sioux Falls, S.D.) victory in the shot put.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Engebretson's distance improved each round of the shot put competition, ultimately clinching the win on the last throw of the meet at 17.43m (57' 2.25"). His mark resulted in a personal record and the second-best performance in Division III this season. Engebretson captured second place in the weight throw on the strength of his final attempt which reached 17.34m (56' 10.75").

- Sophomore Patrick Haertel (Cumming, Ga.) finished fourth in the 60 meters with a time of 6.97. Graduate student Mozi Guobadia (Katy, Texas), who set a PR in the prelims (7.02), was eighth in the final in 7.10.

- First year Anthony Meng (Scottsdale, Ariz.) tied for fifth place in the high jump with a height of 1.96m (6' 5").

- Sophomore Conrad Casebolt (Aurora, Colo.) was the top finisher for MIT in the 200 meters as he ranked sixth with a time of 23.194.
