Engebretsen Wins Shot Put to Lead Men’s Track and Field at BU’s John Thomas Terrier Classic

THE BASICS:
 
- Locations: BU Track and Tennis Center (Boston, Mass.) and The TRACK at New Balance (Boston, Mass.)
 
- The Lead: Junior Sam Engebretson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had two podium finishes to highlight the MIT men's track and field team performances at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic and the UMass Lowell River Hawk Invitational. In addition, the Engineers produced seven top-20 nationally ranked performances.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AT BU:
 
- Engebretson won the shot put with a throw of 16.34m (53' 7.5") topping a field full of Division I competition. He also placed second in the weight throw with a personal-record mark of 18.86m (61' 10.5"), which ranks seventh in Division III. 
 
- Graduate student Kenneth Wei (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) placed second in the long jump with a mark of 6.91m (22' 8").
 
- First year Anthony Meng (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was the runner up in the high jump as he cleared 2.00m (6' 6.75").
 
- Sophomore Sean Huckleberry (San Francisco, Calif.) finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.14m (46' 4.75"), which ranks 19th in the country.
 
- Junior Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas) placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.32.
 
- Senior Garrett Whitmore (Webster City, Iowa) placed fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.10.
 
- In the distance medley relay, the Engineers finished sixth in 9:49.1. The quartet of junior Ziyad Hassan (Ashburn, Va.), sophomore Jack DeBaugh (Severna Park, Md.), sophomore Charlie Glass (Austin, Texas), and graduate student Sam Acquaviva (Newburyport, Mass.) produced the fastest time in the country.
 
- MIT's "B" entry in the DMR, juniors Reece Shuttleworth (Arlington, Va.), Pau Ilerbaig-Bajona (Toronto, Canada), Sam Amin (Olympia, Wash.), and Simon Opsahl (Redlands, Calif.) recorded the No. 2 time in the nation as they crossed the finish line in 10:12.75.
 
- A third entry in the DMR – first years Jaxon Miller (Goshen, Ind.), Connor Sterling (New Milford, Conn.), Nate Martinez (Thompson's Station, Tenn.), and David Whitaker (Northville, Mich.) – ranked ninth in Division III with a time of 10:29.83.
 
- In the 800 meters, Hassan logged a time of 1:52.60, which stands 11th in the nation.
 
- Acquaviva registered a PR and the fifth-best time in the mile as he finished in 4:07.98.
 
- Graduate student Lowell Hensgen (Raleigh, N.C.) set a personal record in the 5,000 meters as his time of 14:13.41 is sixth in Division III.
 
- The 4x400 relay, comprised of sophomore Conrad Casebolt (Aurora, Colo.), sophomore Jack DeBaugh (Severna Park, Md.), sophomore Kristian Praizner (Folsom, Pa.), and first year Davis Lee (Mountain Brook, Ala.), posted a time of 3:19.49 which ranks 19th in the country.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AT THE TRACK AT NEW BALANCE:
 
 - First year Connor Kalvar (Floyd's Knobs, Ind.) ranked 16th in the weight throw as his final toss reached 14.65m (48' 0.75").
 
- In the 200 meters, graduate student Mozi Guobadia (Katy, Texas) finished 30th in 22.41.
