BOSTON, Mass. -- The MIT women's track & field team opened the 2024-25 indoor season on Saturday at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center, competing at BU's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
THE BASICS:
HOW IT HAPPENED – FIELD EVENTS:
- High Jump: Junior Katie Kempff (St. Charles, Ill.) was second, clearing 1.55m (5'1").
- Shot Put: Senior Emily Ball (Des Moines, Iowa) recorded a mark of 12.62m (41'5") to take 3rd.
- Weight Throw: Senior Alexis Boykin (Clayton, Ohio) won the event with a mark of 19.53m (64'1"). Junior Lilia Ould-Hammou (Metuchen, N.J. ) added a PR of 15.19m (49'10") to take fourth.
- Triple Jump: Nony Otu Ugwu's (Katy, Texas) distance of 11.50m (37' 8 3/4") was good for runner-up honors.
HOW IT HAPPENED – TRACK EVENTS:
- 400m Run: Senior Marina Miller (Bel Air, Md) finished 4th in 58.89.
- 200m Dash: Miller was 9th in 26.10 (9th).
- 800m Run: Senior Olivia Dias (East Taunton, Mass.) set a PR with a 19th place finish in 2:18.03. Krystal Montgomery (San Jose, Calif.) added a 22nd place finish less than one second behind Dias in 2:19.00.
- 3000m Run: Coming off an All-American performance at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, senior Christina Crow (Mercer Island, Wash. ) was 108th with a PR of 10:01.54.
- 5000m Run: More PRs dropped for MIT's distance squad in the 5K, where junior Rujuta Sane (Chandler, Ariz.) was 103rd with a PR of 16:48.09, junior Kate Sanderson (West Hartford, Conn. ) was 108th (16:52.40) and sophomore Liv Girand (New York, N.Y.) set a PR in 130th with a time of 17:04.58.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Boykin's weight throw is currently the second-best mark in Division III and the top mark in the East Region.
- Dias' ranks first in the region and in the top-ten nationally in the 800m.
- Miller's 400m time is the top in the East region, while her 200m ranks third regionally early in the season.
- Crow is fifth in Division III in the 3K, while Sane (6th), Sanderson (7th) and Girand (13th) all rank among the top-15 times in the 5K. Crow posted the top regional time in the 3K, while Sane and Sanderson have the top two regional marks in the 5K. Girand is not far behind in fourth.
- Otu Ugwu posted the 7th best DIII mark in the triple jump and the best in the region, while Ball is currently 5th nationally and first regionally in the shot.
