The Lead: The MIT men's track and field team posted four nationally-ranked performances and four personal records this past weekend at the UConn Northeast Challenge and the Friar Invitational.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS – UCONN NORTHEAST CHALLENGE:
- Junior
Sam Engebretson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) was the runner up in discus as his final attempt landed at 51.94m (170' 5"), resulting in a PR and the eighth-best performance in Division III this season.
- In the 110m hurdles, graduate student
Kenneth Wei (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) finished fourth in 14:29. Junior
Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas) was right behind him at 14.42, with the time currently ranking eighth in the nation.
- Sophomore
Jackson Bliey (Talleyville, Del.) was fifth in the high jump (2.03m / 6' 8") while first-year
Anthony Meng (Scottsdale, Ariz.) tied for ninth place (1.93m / 6' 4").
- First-year
Hunter Miller (Greencastle, Ind.) ranked seventh in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of (10:33.86).
- Sophomore
Kristian Praizner (Folsom, Pa.) produced a PR in the 400m as he finished ninth in 49.67.
- Wei claimed ninth place in the triple jump (14.13m / 46' 4.25") while sophomore
Sean Huckleberry (San Francsico, Calif.) ranked 13
th (13.98m / 45' 10.50").
- The 4x400 relay comprised of sophomore
Conrad Casebolt (Aurora, Colo.), first-year
Connor Sterling (New Milford, Conn.), junior
Ian Koe (San Mateo, Calif.), and first-year
Davis Lee (Mountain Brook, Ala.) placed 10
th with a time of 3:28.27.
- Senior
Trey Gurga (San Diego, Calif.) registered a PR in pole vault as he cleared 4.31m (14' 1.75") to finish 11
th overall.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS – FRIAR INVITATIONAL:
- Sophomore
Nathan Shapiro (Glenview, Ill.) was the runner up in the 100m with a time of 11.08 while graduate student
Paulo Martinez-Riviere (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico) placed fifth (11.33). Martinez-Riviere also ranked fifth in the 200m as he crossed the finish line in 23.01.
- Junior
Andrew Spears (Albuquerque, N.M.) was fifth in the 400m (52.12)
- Junior
Ziyad Hassan (Ashburn, Va.) finished fifth in the 800m as his time of 1:51.19 currently ranks ninth in Division III this year.
- Sophomore
Jake Cobb (West Deptford, N.J.) placed sixth in the 3000m steeplechase, logging a time of 9:12.63 which is a PR and also stands 18
th in the country.
