The Lead: The MIT women's track and field team generated six nationally-ranked performances, a trio of personal records, and two victories this weekend at the UConn Northeast Challenge and Friar Invitational.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS – UCONN NORTHEAST CHALLENGE:
- In her intercollegiate debut in the event, first-year
Heather Jensen (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) won the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:18.25.
- Junior
Alexis Boykin (Clayton, Ohio) finished first in shot put with a PR of 15.15m (49' 8.5"), which currently ranks first in Division III. She also placed third in the hammer throw (57.23m / 187' 9") as her toss is second in the country.
- Boykin was the runner-up in discus with a distance of 48.48m (159') while junior
Emily Ball (Des Moines, Iowa) placed sixth with a season-best performance of 46.08m (151' 2"), which stands sixth in the nation.
- In the 4x400 relay, the Engineers finished third with a time of 3:56.05 which ranks 20
th in Division. The quartet featured senior

Paige Cooksey (Ormond Beach, Fla.), junior
Olivia Dias (East Taunton, Mass.), and junior
Marina Miller (Bel Air, Md.).
- Senior
Tolu Akinbo (Naperville, Ill.) tied for fourth place in the high jump as she cleared 1.60m (5' 3").
- In pole vault, sophomore
Hailey Surace (Snohomish, Wash.) tied for fifth place with a height of 3.63m (11' 10.75") while sophomore
Katelyn Howard (Lake Oswego, Ore.) tied for 10
th at 3.48m (11' 5").
- Sophomore
Elaine Wang (West Des Moines, Iowa) ranked sixth in javelin with a distance of 37.92m (124' 5").
- Senior
Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) finished sixth in the 800 meters (2:20.60) as sophomore
Erin Hovendon (Laurel Park, Mass.) was close behind in eighth place (2:21.29).
- Cooksey claimed seventh place in the 400m hurdles as she crossed the finish line in 1:02.62, which currently ranks sixth in Division III.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS – FRIAR INVITATIONAL:
- Senior
Julia Howarth (Barrington, R.I.) captured third place in the 800m as her time of 2:08.08 resulted in a PR and the second-fastest performance in the country this season.
- First-year
Olivia Girand (New York, N.Y.) finished fourth the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:59.61 which ranks 19
th in the nation.
- Sophomore
Krystal Montgomery (San Jose, Calif.) placed fifth in the 400m with a PR of 59.17.
