The Lead: The MIT women's track and field team produced five nationally-ranked performances and five victories among numerous personal records at the two-day Sean Collier Invitational this past weekend.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
- In the 10,000m, sophomore
Katherine Sanderson (West Hartford, Conn.) claimed the victory in 35:08.35, which ranks sixth in the country and is a PR.
- MIT's 4x400 relay of junior
Marina Miller (Bel Air, Md.), senior
Paige Cooksey (Ormond Beach, Fla.), junior
Olivia Dias (East Taunton, Mass.), and senior
Julia Howarth (Barrington, R.I.) broke the tape first with a time of 3:48.09. The Engineers' "B" relay of sophomore
Krystal Montgomery (San Jose, Calif.), senior
Madeline Hon (Manhasset, N.Y.), senior
Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.), and sophomore
Erin Hovendon (Laurel Park, Mass.) was the runner up in 4:04.34.
- Sophomore
Katelyn Howard (Lake Oswego, Ore.) won the pole vault at a height of 3.90m (12' 9.5"), which ranks third in Division III this season and is a PR. Sophomore
Hailey Surace (Snohomish, Wash.) finished second at 3.85m (12' 7.5"), which is sixth in the nation and tied her PR.
- Juniors
Alexis Boykin (Clayton, Ohio) and
Emily Ball (Des Moines, Iowa) finished first and fourth, respectively, in both the hammer throw and the shot put. Boykin's mark of 59.63 (195' 8") in the hammer throw leads the country and is a PR while Ball reached 45.74m (150' 1"). In shot put, Boykin led the way with a distance of 14.45m (47' 5") as Ball had a performance of 12.78m (41' 11.25").
- In the 400m, Miller claimed second place as her time of 56.47 ranks 14
th in the nation. Howarth (56.88) and Dias (57.80) both registered PRs as they finished third and sixth.
- Junior
Christina Crow (Mercer Island, Wash.) was the runner up in the 800m with a PR of 2:15.37. Montgomery finished close behind in fourth place (2:16.48) while Hovendon was seventh (2:17.48).
- Boykin was second in discus (47.40m / 155' 6") while Ball was third (44.37m / 145' 7").
- Ball captured second place in javelin with a throw of 36.84m (120' 10"), just ahead of sophomore
Elaine Wang (West Des Moines, Iowa) in third place at 35.38m (116' 1").
- First-year
Jessica Meza (Columbus, Md.) finished third in the 1500m with a PR of 4:51.96. Competing in the 1500m Invitational during Friday's Sean Collier Distance Night, Crow placed sixth (4:35.64) while first-year
Heather Jensen (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) was ninth (4:40.72), both of which were personal bests.
- Senior
Emma Martin (North Andover, Mass.) was third in the long jump with a distance of 5.26m (17' 3.25").
- Sophomore
Nony Otu Ugwu (Katy, Texas) place fourth in the triple jump at 11.32m (37' 1.75").
- In the high jump, senior
Tolu Akinbo (Naperville, Ill.) and sophomore
Katie Kempff (St. Charles, Ill.) tied for fifth place at a height of 1.57m (5' 1.75").
