The Lead: The MIT women's track and field team produced eight victories and six nationally ranked performances at the Amherst Spring Fling on Sunday.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
Javelin
- Junior
Emily Ball (Des Moines, Iowa) finished first with a throw of 37.55m (123' 2") while sophomore
Elaine Wang (West Des Moines, Iowa) was fourth with a distance of 34.28m (112' 5").
Hammer Throw
- Junior
Alexis Boykin (Clayton, Ohio) won the hammer throw with a toss of 54.63m (179' 2") as Ball was the runner up (48.21m / 158' 2"). First-year
Macy Brennan (Westlake, Ohio) captured fifth place with a mark of 42.74m (140 '2) while sophomore
Lilia Ould-Hammou finished right behind her in sixth place (42.33m / 138' 10").
- Boykin's distance is second in Division III this season.
3000m Steeplechase
- First-year
Olivia Girand (New York, N.Y.) claimed the victory in her outdoor debut with a time of 11:09.20, which ranks 18
th in the country.
Pole Vault
- Sophomore
Hailey Surace (Snohomish, Wash.) cleared 3.80m (12' 5.5") to capture the win and rank eighth in the nation.
Shot Put
- Boykin finished first with a distance of 14.05m (46' 1.25") as Ball placed second (13.12m / 43' 0.50") and first-year
Lily Siegelman (Newton, Mass.) was fifth (10.96 / 35' 11.50").
- Ball's performance currently ranks 19
th in Division III.
200m
- Junior
Marina Miller (Bel Air, Md.) won the event with a PR of 25.19 while first-year
JoJo Miller (Marietta, Ga.) also recorded a PR as she finished in 25.82.
Discus
- Boykin won discus with a PR of 48.90m (160' 5") as Ball finished second (44.34m / 145' 5"). Brennan recorded a personal best with a toss of 39.86m (130' 9") which resulted in fourth place.
- Boykin currently stands third in the country while Ball ranks eighth.
5000m
- Sophomore
Katherine Sanderson (West Hartford, Conn.) captured first place with a time of 17:24.43.
Triple Jump
- Sophomore
Nony Otu Ugwu (Katy Texas) was the runner up with a leap of 11.36m (37' 3.25").
1500m
- First-year
Heather Jensen (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) finished second in 4:40.97 while graduate student
Kirsi Rajagopal (Harrison, N.Y.) was fifth (4:43.56).
High Jump
- Senior
Tolu Akinbo (Naperville, Ill.) tied for second place at a height of 1.62m (5' 3.75") as sophomore
Katie Kempff (St. Charles, Ill.) and first-year
Amalia Christina Toutziaridi (Athens, Greece) both tied for sixth place at 1.57m (5' 1.75").
- Akinbo's performance currently ranks 20
th in Division III this season.
800m
- Sophomore
Krystal Montgomery (San Jose, Calif.) finished third with a PR of 2:16.23, followed by senior
Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) with a PR of 2:17.52 in fifth place and first-year
Megan Diulus (Akron, Ohio) in sixth (2:20.83).
4x400 Relay
- The 4x400 relay comprised of Rowlett, sophomore
Erin Hovendon (Hendersonville, N.C.), Diulus, and junior
Olivia Stoner (Haddonfield, N.J.) finished fourth in 4:12.85.

- Senior
Madeline Hon (Manhasset, N.Y.) ranked fifth with a time of 1:00.53.
Long Jump
- Otu Ugwu placed seventh with a PR of 5.00m (16' 5") as senior
Emma Martin (North Andover, Mass.) finished right behind her in eighth (4.95m / 16' 3").
