The Lead: The MIT men's track and field team claimed the program's 17
th New England Division III Championship on Saturday, racking up 108.5 points which was comfortably ahead of runner up Tufts University (78.5).
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
- Sophomore
Jackson Bliey (Talleyville, Del.) won the high jump for the second year in a row by clearing 2.04m (6' 8.25"). First-year
Anthony Meng (Scottsdale, Ariz.) tied for third place (1.99m / 6' 6.25") while senior
Spencer Yandrofski (Mebane, N.C.) was seventh (1.94m / 6' 4.25").
- Junior
Sam Engebretson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) claimed his third straight discus title as he won with a distance of 50.67m (166' 3"). In addition, he was the runner up in shot put as his final attempt reached 16.64m (54' 7.25").
- Sophomore
Sean Huckleberry (San Francisco, Calif.) captured the triple jump title with a mark of 14.17m (46' 6").
- The 4x100 relay, comprised of graduate student
Mozi Guobadia (Baton Rouge, La.), sophomore
Nolan Clement (Fullerton, Calif.), senior
Garrett Whitmore (Webster City, Iowa), and sophomore
Patrick Haertel (Cumming, Ga.), finished first with a time of 41.16.
- Graduate student
Kenneth Wei (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) won his first 110m hurdles title as he crossed the finish line 14.48. Junior
Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas) secured third place with a time of 14.71.
- In the 3,000m steeplechase, sophomore
Jake Cobb (West Deptford, N.J.) claimed first place in 9:15.69.
- The 4x800 relay, comprised of junior
Pau Ilerbaig-Bajona (Toronto, Canada), sophomore
Charlie Glass (Austin, Texas), first-year
David Whitaker (Northville, Mich.), and first-year
Jaxon Miller (Goshen, Ind.), finished second with a time of 7:54.58.
- In the long jump, Wei was fourth with a distance of 6.99m (22' 11.25").
- Junior
Simon Opsahl (Redlands, Calif.) finished fourth in the 800m as he a logged a PR of 1:51.58.
- The 4x400 relay, featuring sophomore
Conrad Casebolt (Aurora, Colo.), first-year
Connor Sterling (New Milford, Conn.), first-year
Davis Lee (Mountain Brook, Ala.), and sophomore
Kristian Praizner (Folsom, Pa.), placed fifth in 3:19.67.
- Clement was sixth in the 100m with a time of 11.01.
- Praizner ranked seventh in the 400m with a PR of 49.29.
