Alexis Boykin (Clayton, Ohio) won both the shot put and weight throw events while junior
Hailey Surace (Snohomish, Wash.) picked up the victory in pole vault for MIT women's track & field, competing against high-level competition from the Division I, II and III levels at the URI Invitational on Saturday.

THE BASICS:
HOW IT HAPPENED - FIELD EVENTS:
- Shot Put: Boykin topped all competitors with a winning distance of 15.12m (49' 7 1/4"). Classmate Emily Ball (Des Moines, Iowa) took fourth, producing a distance of 12.61m (41' 4 1/2").
- Weight Throw: Boykin nearly broke her PR, scoring first in the event with a distance of 19.72m (64' 8").
- Pole Vault: Junior Hailey Surace (Snohomish, Wash.) won the event, clearing 3.75m (12' 3 3/4") to earn gold. Junior Katelyn Howard (Lake Oswego, Ore.) had a top five finish, taking fourth with a height of 3.65m (11' 11 3/4"). First-year Elise Doyle (Danville, Calif.) was ninth with a 3.35m (11') result.
- High Jump: Junior Katie Kempff (St. Charles, Ill.)Â captured 11th with a height of 1.55m (5' 1").
- Long Jump: First-year Shannon Cordle (Marysville, Ohio) placed 17th with a distance of 4.64m (15' 2 3/4").
HOW IT HAPPENED – TRACK EVENTS:
- 60m Dash: Sophomore Jojo Miller (Marietta, Ga.) and first-years Cordle and Neva Miller (Marietta, Ga.) all competed in the 60m prelims. Jojo Miller was the top finisher for the Engineers with a time of 8.26, followed by Cordle (8.49) and Neva Miller (8.75).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Boykin's distance of 15.12m (49' 7 1/4") in the shot put is a new PR and program record and it currently ranks No. 1 in Division III.

- MIT is back in action on Saturday, January 25 at the Riverhawk Invitational, hosted by UMass Lowell.
