BOSTON, Mass. -- Graduate student
Gillian Roeder (Delmar, N.Y.) set a personal-best in the mile, coming in at 4:50.16 for No. 3 MIT Women's track & field at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic on Friday. Her performance was within six tenths of a second of the Engineers' program record in the event.
THE BASICS:
HOW IT HAPPENED - TRACK EVENTS:
- 60m: Sophomore JoJo Miller (Marietta, Ga.) took 20th out of 48 runners with a time of 8.19.
- 200m: Miller also claimed 38th out of 120 total competitors, clocking in at 26.08. First-years Shannon Cordle (Marysville, Ohio) and Neva Miller (Marietta, Ga.) finished with respective times of 28.31 and 28.36.
- 400m: Senior Marina Miller (Bel Air, Md.) ran a season-best time of 57.26 in the invite section of the event, consisting predominantly of Division I opponents. First-year Maeve Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas) made a collegiate debut with a time of 59.22 in the open section.
- Mile: In addition to Roeder, senior Christina Crow (Mercer Island, Wash.) nearly broke the five-minute mark at 5:01.54. Sophomore Jessica Meza (Columbus, Ind.) hit a PR with a time of 5:17.03 and first-year Sarah Hopp (Stevens Point, Wis.) crossed the finish line at 5:25.39.
- 3000m: Junior Kate Sanderson (West Hartford, Conn.) topped all DIII runners in 51st place with a time of 9:40.27. Sophomore Liv Girand (New York, N.Y.) set a PR by over 17 seconds, finishing at 9:43.95. Junior Rujuta Sane (Chandler, Ariz.) broke the 10-minute mark at 9:51.16. Sophomores Heather Jensen (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) (10:08.17) and Megan Diulus (Akron, Ohio) (10:16.40) both set personal bests.
- 5000m: First-year Ava Hartman (New Orleans, La.) came in at 17:56.04 to take 50th out of nearly 90 athletes.
- 4x400m Relay: Senior Olivia Dias (East Taunton, Mass.), junior Shreya Kaylan (Troy, Mich.), junior Krystal Montgomery (San Jose, Calif.) and Marina Miller ranked 14th with a time of 3:51.29.
HOW IT HAPPENED - FIELD EVENTS:
- High Jump: Junior Katherine Kempff (St. Charles, Ill.) hit a season-high mark of 1.60m (5' 3") for a ninth-place finish.
- Triple Jump: Junior Nony Otu Ugwu (Katy, Texas) jumped 11.06m (36' 3 1/2"), good for 11th place.
- Shot Put: Senior Emily Ball (Des Moines, Iowa) captured seventh out of 28 individuals with a distance of 12.89m (42' 3 1/2"). Sophomore Lily Siegelman (Newton, Mass.) earned 17th, throwing for 10.89m (35' 8 3/4") while classmate Ivy Brenner (Healdsburg, Calif.) collected a personal record with a 9.91m (32' 6 1/4") performance.
- Weight Throw: Junior Lilia Ould-Hammou (Metuchen, N.J.) threw for 14.44m (47' 4 1/2") to take 13th as first-year Rachel Onwu (Waxhaw, N.C.) broke the top-20 with a distance of 13.37m (43' 10 1/2").
- Pole Vault: On Saturday at the Harvard Invitational, junior Katelyn Howard (Lake Oswego, Ore.) finished second in the Championship event with a mark of 3.73m (12-2 1/4). Classmate Tessa Baker (Reno, Nev.) was fifth in the Open event with a mark of 2.90m (9-6 1/4).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Roeder's performance tops all Division III performers this year. Crow's time is top 20 performance this season.
- Sanderson and Girand are No. 1 and 4 respectively in the 3000m in Division III. Jensen and Diulius both cracked the top 50.
- Ball was the top finisher in the shot put among Division III competitors. The senior's 12.89m currently ranks 25th in NCAA Division III.
- The 4x400m relay's time was second among all Division III teams at the meet, only trailing Colby College.
