MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – Sophomore Sasha Ceol of the No. 8 MIT women's soccer team has earned the NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week award for the week ending October 19. This marks the first time Ceol has earned the award.
Ceol played a key role in helping the Engineers earn two more shutout victories in NEWMAC play as she anchored the defense that allowed just nine shots in two games with only two on target. Ceol and the rest of the Engineer defense have yet to allow a goal in seven NEWMAC contests, and the team is second in Division III with 12 total shutouts this season. Opponents also earned just five corner kicks against the Engineers during the week. In addition, she also registered an assist in MIT's 5-0 win over Clark.
MIT continues with NEWMAC play as they will host Wheaton on Wednesday, October 22 at 4:00 PM on Roberts Field.
