BOSTON, Mass. — The No. 1 MIT women's track & field team is in fourth place following day one of the 2025 New England Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Seniors Alexis Boykin (Clayton, Ohio) and Emily Ball (Des Moines, Iowa) completed a commanding sweep of the shot put in the opening event of the championships, finishing first and second to lead the Engineers. Junior Katelyn Howard (Lake Oswego, Ore.) cleared 3.87m (12' 8 1/4") to win the pole vault, as the Engineers currently have 33 points in the team standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED - TRACK EVENTS:

- Shot Put: Boykin won the event with a mark of 15.09m (49' 6 1/4"), with Ball taking second with a mark of 13.76m (45' 1 3/4"). Sophomore Lily Siegelman (Newton, Mass.) added a 25th place finish with a mark of 10.67m.
- Pole Vault: Howard took first clearing 3.87m (12' 8 1/4"). First year Elise Doyle (Danville, Calif. ) was third clearing a personal record height of 3.82m (12' 8 1/4"), while junior Hailey Surface (Snohomish, Wash.) finished eighth clearing 3.52m (11' 6 1/2")
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Ball is now 11th in the nation and second in the region in the shot put
- Howard moved up to seventh national and third regional in the pole vault, Doyle is now 12th in the nation and fourth in the region.
- Along with Surace's mark from the Suffolk Relays earlier this season, MIT now owns three of the top four spots in the region in the pole vault.
