CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior
Alexis Boykin (Clayton, Ohio) broke her own school record in the Shot Put as the No. 1 nationally ranked MIT women's track & field team competed at the Harvard Crimson Elite on Friday evening at Gordon Indoor Track.
THE BASICS:
HOW IT HAPPENED – TRACK EVENTS:
- Women's 60m: Sophomore JoJo Miller (Marietta, Ga.) finished first in her heat and 31st in the prelims with a time of 8.16 seconds.
HOW IT HAPPENED – FIELD EVENTS:
- Women's Shot Put: Boykin broke her own school record on her second attempt, recording a mark of 15.42m (50-7 ¼). Classmate Emily Ball's (Des Moines, Iowa) top mark also came on her second attempt at 12.57 (41-3).
- Women's High Jump: Junior Katie Kempff (St. Charles, Ill.) cleared 1.60m (55-3) to finish in tenth.
- Women's Pole Vault: First year Elise Doyle (Danville, Calif.) took 11th with a mark of 3.59m (11-9 ¼), junior Katelyn Howard recorded a matching mark of 3.59m (11-9 ¼).
- Women's Triple Jump: Junior Nony Otu Ugwu (Katy, Texas) recorded a mark of 11.83m (38-9 ¾) on her first attempt to finish in sixth place.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Boykin's mark in the shot put is the best in Division III this season, topping her own school record and season best mark of 15.12m (49-7¼) set on January 18 at the URI Invitational.
- Miller's mark in the 60m is the 36th best in the East Region to date.
- Otu Ugwu is now 12th nationally and second in the region in the Triple Jump.

- MIT will compete on Saturday at both the Harvard Crimson Open and the Tufts Cupid Challenge.
