RALEIGH, N.C. — Senior Alexis Boykin (Clayton, Ohio) finished 9th in the discus to lead the MIT women's track & field team on Friday at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State University.
THE BASICS:
HOW IT HAPPENED - RUNNING EVENTS
- 100m: Junior Shreya Kalyan (Troy, Mich.) took 83rd in 13.03.
- 400m: Senior Marina Miller (Bel Air, Md.) was 51st in 56.93. Senior Olivia Dias (East Taunton, Mass.) was 64th in 57.31 and junior Krystal Montgomery (San Jose, Calif.) was 68th in 57.54.
- 3000m Steeplechase: Sophomore Liv Girand (New York, N.Y.) was 44th in 10:56.68. Classmate Heather Jensen (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) finished 54th overall in 11:13.95. The duo finished 10th and 14th, respectively, in the opening heat.
- 10000m: Junior Kate Sanderson (West Hartford, Conn.) set a new collegiate PR, taking 25th in 34:52.91. Classmate Rujuta Sane (Chandler, Ariz.) was 40th in 35:23.27.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED - FIELD EVENTS
- Triple Jump: Junior Nony Otu Ugwu (Katy, Texas) 15th with a mark of 11.74m (38' 6.25").
- Discus: Boykin was 9th with a mark of 48.32m (158' 6"). Senior Emily Ball (Des Moines, Iowa) was 39th in 39.78m (130' 6") and sophomore Macy Brennan (Westlake, Ohio) was 41st in 39.70m (130' 3").
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Miller, Dias, and Montgomery are each currently in the top-ten nationally to start the outdoor season in the 400m.
- Girand and Jensen's times in the Steeplechase are among the nation's leaders early in the season. Girand is third and Jensen is sixth.
- Otu Ugwu is second nationally in the triple jump, trailing only the current top mark of 11.93m.
- Boykin's toss in the discus will set the early Division III standard. Ball ranks in the top 20.
- Sanderson and Sane own the number two and three times, respectively, in DIII in the 10,000m.
NEXT UP:
- The Raleigh Relays conclude on Saturday. MIT will compete in the Hammer and the 800m.
