AMHERST, Mass. — Senior Alexis Boykin (Clayton, Ohio) was first in the Discus and the Hammer, recording the top mark in Division III this season in the Hammer as the No. 2 nationally-ranked MIT women's track & field team competed on Sunday at the UMass Commonwealth Invitational.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Running Events:
- 100m: Sophomore Paige Dzenutis (Norfolk, Conn.) was 6th in the second heat and 27th overall in 13.04.
- 200m: Senior Marina Miller (Bel Air, Md.) was 3rd in 25:09.
- 800m: Sophomore Megan Diulus (Akron, Ohio) was 17th in 2:21.55.
- 1500m: Sophomore Jessica Meza (Columbus, Ind.) was 1st in the 3rd Heat and 13th overall in 4:46.33.
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:
- High Jump: Junior Katie Kempff (St. Charles, Ill.) tied for third, clearing 1.56m (5'1.25").
- Long Jump: Kempff was 10th with a mark of 5.24m (17'2.25") on her second attempt.
- Triple Jump: Junior Nony Otu Ugwu (Katy, Texas) was 5th with a mark of 11.48m (37'8").
- Discus: Boykin was first with a mark of 4.27m (155'1.00") on both her fifth and sixth attempts. Senior Emily Ball (Des Moines, Iowa) also placed in the top eight, taking fourth with a mark of 44.53m (146'1")
- Hammer: Boykin was 1st with a mark of 59.34m (194'8") on her fifth attempt
- Javelin: First year Olivia Carpenter (St. Louis, Mo.) was 3rd with a mark of 37.78m (123'11") on her third attempt. Ball took 5th with a mark of 36.44m (119'7") and first year Amelia Bronhard-Yates (Ringoes, N.J) was 9th with a mark of 33.84m (111') on her second attempt.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Boykin's mark in the Hammer was the best in Division III this season.
- Ball's mark in the discus moves the senior into 13th nationally and third in the region. Ball is also fourth in the region in the Hammer and ninth in the Javelin.
- Miller's time in the 200m is 7th regionally
- Diulus moved up to 16th in the region in the 800
- Messi is no one of six MIT runners in the top ten regionally in the 1500m.
- Kempff is sixth in the region in the High Jump and eighth regionally in the long jump.
UP NEXT:
- MIT will host the Sean Collier Invitational next Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19 at Steinbrenner Stadium.
