CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The No. 2 MIT women's track and field team opened the 2025 Sean Collier Invitational on Friday with the annual Distance Night under the lights at Steinbrenner Stadium. Paced by junior Rujuta Sane's (Chandler, Ariz.) schol record time, MIT had four of the top eight finishers in the 5000m on its home track.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Running Events:
- 3000m Steeplechase: First year Kate Friedman (Greenwich, Conn.) was 7th in 12:08.21.
- 1500m: Sophomore Megan Diulus (Akron, Ohio) was 4th in the second heat and 13th overall in 4:44.23.
- 5000m: Sane was 5th with a time school record of 16:42.26 to pace the Engineers. Grad student Gillian Roeder (Delmar, N.Y.) was 6th in 16:44.25. Sophomore Liv Girand (New York, N.Y.) was 7th in 17:06.27 and junior Kate Sanderson (West Hartford, Conn.) was 8th in 17:09.40.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Friedman established a collegiate PR with her debut in the 3000m Steeplechase.
- Sane's time is sixth nationally in the 5000m, while Roeder is now eighth. Girand will land at 29th in Division III and Sanderson is currently 32nd.
