SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Junior Jackson Bliey (Talleyville, Del.) set the facility record and claimed his third straight NEWMAC high jump title as the No. 13 MIT men's track and field team finished second at the 2025 NEWMAC Men's Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the Mount Holyoke College Turf and Track Complex. WPI captured the team title for just the second time in program history.

- Team Score: 2nd of 6 (39 points)
- Team Standings: WPI (52), MIT (39), Babson (30), Coast Guard (27), Springfield (24), and Wheaton (22).
TOP PERFORMERS - Running Events:
- 3000m Steeplechase: First year Luke Rupert (Hill City, S.D.) earned second team All-Conference honors as the runner-up in 9:43.67.Â
- 4 x 100m Relay: Mozi Guobadia (Baton Rouge, La.), Nolan Clement (Fullerton, Calif.), Will Liu (San Marino, Calif.) and Patrick Haertel (Cumming, Ga.) finished in second with a time of 41.34 seconds.
- 1500m: Senior Simon Opsahl (Redlands, Calif.) earned second team accolades in 3:57.39.
- 110m Hurdles: Senior Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas ) claimed the NEWMAC title, his first in the 110m Hurdles, in 14.17.Â
- 400m: Sophomore Davis Lee (Mountain Brook, Ala.) was MIT's top finisher in 11th in 51.27.
- 100m Finals: Haertel finished in fourth, just missing the podium in 10.695 as Michael Scott of Springfield finished in 10.698.Â
- 800m: Sophomore David Whitaker (Northville, Mich.) and junior Charlie Glass (Austin, Texas) finished 1-2 to sweep All-Conference honors. Whitaker was the NEWMAC champion in 1:53.14 and Glass was the runner-up in 1:53.79.
- 400m Hurdles: Junior Jake Cobb (West Deptford, N.J.) finished seventh in 58.34.Â
- 200m: Junior Kristian Praizner (Folsom, Pa.) was fifth in 21.96 seconds.Â
- 5000m: Senior Pablo Arroyo (Richardson, Texas) and junior Sam Coutts (Pacific Grove, Calif.) finished second and third, respectively. Arroyo earned All-Conference second team honors as the runner-up in 14:45.33 Coutts earned a spot on the podium in 14:58.02.Â
- 4x400m Relay: Connor Sterling (New Milford, Conn.), Praizner, Pau Ilerbaig-Bajona (Toronto, Canada) and Ayman Noreldaim (Iowa City, Iowa) earned a spot on the podium with a third place finish in 3:21.64.
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:
- Shot Put: Sophomore Justin Buonato (Horsham, Pa.) took home the NEWMAC title with a throw of 14.81m.Â
- Triple Jump: Junior Sean Huckleberry (San Francisco, Calif.) was the NEWMAC Champion with a mark of 14.15m (46'5.25"). First year Sawyer Quallen (Princeton, N.J.) was third with a mark of 13.63m (44'8.75").Â
- High Jump: Bliey cleared 2.05m (6'8.75") to win the title. Sophomore Anthony Meng (Scottsdale, Ariz.) gave MIT a 1-2 finish, taking All-Conference second team honors by clearing 1.95m (6'4.75").
- Discus: Gavin Reardon (Ward, Ark.) earned second team All-Conference with a throw of 42.39m (139'1").
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:Â
- The top two finishers in each event earned NEWMAC All-Conference honors.
- MIT had won the past three NEWMAC titles and 23 of the 25 in NEWMAC history.
