AMHERST, Mass. — Powered by 14 top five finishes, including a victory by senior Emily Ball (Des Moines, Iowa) in the discus, the No. 4 nationally-ranked MIT women's track and field took runner-up honors on a rainy Saturday at the UMass Flagship Opener.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Howard, Doyle and Surace are all ranked in the top 25 in Division III in the pole vault following Saturday. Howard is 9th, Doyle is 17th and Surace is 25th.
- Ball is 22nd nationally in the discus and 16th in the hammer.
- Carpenter is 16th in Division III in the javelin thanks to her mark on Saturday.
