The MIT sailing team took to the water for three regattas over the rainy weekend and earned a fifth-place finish at the Emily Wick Fleet Race to highlight the weekend of competition.  

OPEN NEW ENGLAND TEAM RACE CHAMPIONSHIP (FOWL TROPHY) | CAMBRIDGE, Mass. | 8th of 12 

• MIT  went 5-13 overall. They went 5-6 in the opening round. 
• Graduate student Sam Bruce (Annapolis, Md.), senior Julius Heitkoetter (Austin, Texas), and first-year Will Kulas (Jensen Beach, Fla.) handled the skipper responsibilities with sophomore Ellie Pinto (Chicago, Ill.), senior Yitian Zhu (Katy, Texas) and senior Samantha Karlson (Groton, Conn.) made up the crew. 

EMILY WICK FLEET RACE | NEW LONDON, Conn. | 5th of 17 

• The Engineers finished with a total of 139 points with the 'A' boat of sophomore Emma Wang (McLean, Va.) and first-year Sophia Woodbury (Sarasota, Fla.) finishing seventh with 66 points and four top three finishes. The 'B' boat of first-year Karya Basaraner (Izmir, Turkey) and first-year Christine Keedy Brown (Miami, Fla.) grabbed three top three finishes, including one, win to finish seventh with 73 points.  

MYSTIC LAKE TEAM RACE | MEDFORD, Mass. | 9th of 10 

• The Engineers finished with a 2-6 record overall.  
• Senior Max Katz-Christy (Cambridge, Mass.), first-year Conrad Straden (Darien, Conn.), and junior Lucas Escandon (Brick, N.J.) were the skippers during the race with first-year Katelyn Battacharia (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.), sophomore Katherine Jankowski (Hillsborough, Calif.), and first-year Natalie Hatzigeorgiou (Sammamish, Wash.) on the crew.   

UP NEXT: 

• MIT returns to the water next weekend for a full slate of racing. The Engineers will compete at the Women's NEISA Team Race, the Thompson Team Race, and the Oberg Fleet Race from Saturday, April 12-Sunday, April 13.
