No. 3 Women’s Track and Field Hosts Final Qualifier In Last Push Toward Nationals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Seniors Marina Miller (Bel Air, Md.), Christina Crow (Mercer Island, Wash.) and Alexis Boykin (Clayton, Ohio) and junior Katelyn Howard (Lake Oswego, Ore.) and MIT's 4x400m relay team all posted top 20 national marks as the No. 3 MIT women's track and field team hosted the MIT Final Qualifier on Thursday evening at Sherie and Don (1961) Morrison Track at Steinbrenner Stadium.

TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:

TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:

  • High Jump: Junior Katie Kempff (St. Charles, Ill.) tied for 2nd, clearing 1.60m (5'3").
  • Pole Vault: Howard was 1st, clearing 4.08m (13'4 1/2"). Classmate Hailey Surace (Snohomish, Wash.) took 2nd, clearing 3.83m (12'6 3/4"). 
  • Long Jump: Kempff was fifth with a jump of 4.93m (16'2 1/4") on her first attempt.
  • Triple Jump: Junior Non Otu Ugwu (Katy, Texas) was 2nd with a jump of 11.72m (38'5 1/2").
  • Shot Put: Boykin finished 1st with a throw of 15.86m (52'1/2") on her final attempt.
  • Discus: Senior Emily Ball (Des Moines, Iowa) was 5th with a throw of 43.61m (143'1") on her second attempt. 
  • Hammer: Junior Lilia Ould-Hammou (Metuchen, N.J.) took 9th with a throw of 46.67m (152'5").
  • Javelin: First year Olivia Carpenter (St. Louis, Mo.) was fourth with a throw of 38.21m (125'4") and classmate Amelia Bronhard-Yates (Ringoes, N.J.) was fifth with a throw of 36.07m (118'4"). Both marks came on the final attempts for each athlete. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Marina Miller's time in 400m moved her inside the top ten nationally, locking up a trip to nationals.
  • Crow's time in the 1500m was a season best for the senior and currently ranks her inside the top 20 nationally at number 19. 
  • MIT's season best time in the 4x400m is the second best time in the country. 
  • Howard has a hold on the second best mark nationally in the pole vault, clearing a season best of 4.08m to lock up her spot at NCAAs. Surace is currently 14th at 3.88m.
  • Boykin continues to dominate in the shot, finishing first for the fourth consecutive meet with a season best mark.

  • The 2025 Division III outdoor track and field championships will take place May 22-24, 2025 at the SPIRE Institute's Outdoor Track & Field facility in Geneva, Ohio. Selections for the 2025 DIII men's and women's outdoor track and field championships will be announced on Friday, May 16 on NCAA.com.
