MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – MIT's
Daphne Gavros was named the NEWMAC Women's Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 28. This is the first time she has received this award.
In a 2-0 week for the No. 16 Engineers, Gavros tallied 32 digs, 10 assists, and three aces. She produced 18 digs, four assists, and two aces in a 25-15, 25-22, 21-25, 25-20 victory at WPI last Tuesday. Gavros's performance resulted in her becoming the 18th player in program history to record 1,000 career digs. She then led all players with 14 digs and added six assists and an ace in a 25-20, 25-19, 25-17 win at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Saturday.
MIT returns to action on Tuesday, September 30 when it hosts NEWMAC foe Wheaton College at 6:00 PM.
