Sport Shorts Spotlight: No. 5 Women's Soccer Clinches NEWMAC Regular Season Championship
The No. 5 MIT women's soccer team continued its dominant run, earning back-to-back 4-0 victories over Wheaton and Mount Holyoke to clinch the NEWMAC regular season championship and the top seed in the conference tournament. The Engineers opened the week with a shutout win over Wheaton, highlighted by two goals from Arianna Doss and additional scores from Madelyn Popilek and Leah Berey. Maddy Noll made four saves to earn her seventh shutout of the season. MIT carried that momentum into Saturday's matchup against Mount Holyoke, where Doss, Sasha Ceol, Zoe Barton, and Ayla Sumer each found the back of the net. Doss led the Engineers offensively throughout the week, totaling three goals and two assists, while Barton and Berey each recorded their first collegiate goals. With the victories, MIT improved to 15-2-1 overall and a perfect 9-0-0 in NEWMAC play, extending its winning streak to six matches. The Engineers return home to Roberts Field on Wednesday, October 28, to face Emerson at 4:00 PM.
