BEVERLY, Mass. – The nationally-ranked No. 13 MIT men's volleyball team compiled a 3-1 ledger at the Endicott College March Mania Invitational held this past weekend. The Engineers defeated Johnson & Wales University, 25-8, 25-22, 24-26, 25-16, but fell to Emmanuel College, 25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, on Saturday. MIT responded by topping Sage College (24-26, 25-13, 25-18, 25-20) and No. 14 Rivier University (19-25, 26-24, 25-21, 26-24) to improve to 13-11 on the year. Senior Matt Hohenberger (St. Louis, Mo.) represented the Cardinal and Gray on the all-tournament team.

Sophomore Andrew Busse (Mount Prospect, Ill.) tallied 12 kills, a .588 hitting percentage, seven digs, and four blocks in the opener with Johnson & Wales. Senior Patrick Vatterott (St. Louis, Mo.) posted eight kills, a .400 hitting performance, and two blocks as Hohenberger compiled seven kills, six digs, four aces, and two blocks. Junior Ken Siebert (St. Louis, Mo.) contributed six kills and two aces while freshman Brendan Chang (Laytonsville, Md.) collected 12 digs. Junior Paul Syta (Fairport, N.Y.) totaled 37 assists and five digs while sophomore Alex Klein (San Diego, Calif.) bolstered the front row with two blocks. Sophomore Chris Omahan (Mount Vernon, Ohio) notched eight digs followed by five from freshman Kevin Tu (Saratoga, Calif.).

Hohenberger produced 14 kills, seven digs, three aces, and two blocks versus Emmanuel. Busse recorded 12 kills, a .458 hitting percentage, and five blocks while Siebert added 12 kills, five digs, and three aces. Syta generated 33 assists, 11 digs, and three blocks as Chang gathered 11 digs. Klein and Vatterott both had four blocks while Klein contributed seven digs.

In MIT's inaugural meeting with Sage, Hohenberger racked up 16 kills, a .306 hitting performance, seven digs, and two aces. Siebert tallied 14 digs, 10 kills, and two aces as Busse posted 11 kills, a .435 hitting percentage, and four blocks. Vatterott amassed nine blocks while Omahan led the way with 14 digs. Syta finished with 43 assists, six digs, and six blocks as Chang notched 11 digs. Klein rounded out the front row with four blocks.

Hohenberger capped off the weekend with 15 kills, six digs, and three aces against Rivier. Siebert produced 14 kills a .321 hitting effort, and five digs as Vatterott added 12 kills. Busse and Klein registered nine and seven kills, respectively, while Syta dished out 48 assists. Chang picked up eight digs as Omahan added four of his own.

MIT continues its road trip this weekend at the Johnson & Wales University Invitational. The Engineers will take on Daniel Webster College and York College (N.Y.) on Friday, March 15 before returning to Providence the next day to face New Jersey City University and the host Wildcats.
