Box Score THE BASICS:

- The Lead: In the 2016 season finale, the MIT football team dropped a 36-35 double-overtime final to Nichols College on Saturday afternoon. The Bison scored on a two-point conversion in the second extra period to come away with the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Bison jumped on the board in the first as Brenden Massey pulled down a 34-yard touchdown pass from Chris Mullins for the early 7-0 edge. MIT answered with 6:31 left in the opening quarter though as freshman Sean Kent (Bend, Ore.) scored on an 87-yard punt return for a touchdown to get the Engineers within one at 7-6.
- Nichols came back with 2:50 remaining in the first as Mullins scored on a one-yard touchdown run to cap a 12-play, 71-yard drive for the 14-6 edge at the half.
- MIT outscored the hosts 14-0 in the third quarter and took its first lead of the game with 13 seconds left in the period. Freshman John Robertson (Brentwood, N.J.) scored the first of his three touchdowns on the day with 6:07 left in the third with a five-yard scoring run, followed by a five-yard rushing TD by sophomore quarterback Udgam Goyal (Frisco, Texas).
- The score stayed that way until less than five minutes remained in the fourth as Mullins scored on a one-yard rushing TD to cap a seven-play, 59-yard drive and tie the game at 21-21.
- MIT had an opportunity to win the game in the final seconds of regulation, but a 34-yard field goal attempt by senior Tucker Cheyne (Avon, Conn.) went wide left as the game headed into OT.
- The Bison scored on the first play of overtime on a 25-yard pass from Mullins to Tony Martignoli to take a 28-21 lead. The Engineers answered back though as Robertson scored from 11 yards out and Cheyne converted the extra point. Robertson and Cheyne combined for seven points in the second OT as well, this time with Robertson scoring from one yard out.
- Nichols picked up the win in the second OT as Mullins scored from six yards out, followed by a two-point conversion pass by Martignoli for the one-point win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Robertson led the Engineers with a 161-yard, three-touchdown effort as he closed his rookie season with with 920 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. Junior Jacob Del Priore (Center Valley, Pa.) had a team-best nine receptions for 53 yards, while Goyal finished with 105 passing yards.
- Defensively, senior Anthony Emberley (Longmont, Colo.) posted 11 tackles, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, one interception and one pass breakup in his final collegiate game. Junior Mitch Turley (Westfield, Ind.) also finished with 11 total tackles to end the season with 62 total tackles.
- Mullins completed 33-of-55 passes for 436 yards and two touchdowns, while Martignoli had a game-high 12 receptions for 181 yards and a touchdown. Massey also had a 100-yard receiving game as he finished with six catches for 136 yards and a TD.
