Box Score THE BASICS:

- The Lead: In the 2016 NEFC opener for both teams, the MIT football team jumped out to a 17-13 halftime advantage and pulled away for a 30-13 win over Maine Maritime on Saturday afternoon at Ritchie Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Mariners took an early 7-0 lead just 5:21 into the first quarter as Corey Creeger completed a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Susi for the lead. The Engineers answered just 45 seconds later as freshman John Robertson (Brentwood, Tenn.) scored from 47 yards out for his second career TD and longest run of his career to equal things at 7-7.
- Maine Maritime came back with a touchdown with 13:21 remaining in the second as Jacob Doolan scored from 79 yards out for the 13-7 edge as the extra-point attempt failed. MIT sophomore Eddy Garcia-Montes (Miami, Fla.) gave the visitors the lead for good though with 6:24 left in the third on a 13-yard TD reception as the Engineers embarked on a 23-0 scoring run to win their first conference game.
- After the scoring catch by Garcia-Montes, senior kicker Tucker Cheyne (Avon, Conn.) converted field goals of 34 and 43 yards, along with a TD from junior Jacob Del Priore (Center Valley, Pa.) to seize control at 27-13 midway though the fourth. Cheyne capped off the scoring with 2:13 remaining as he booted a 27-yard field goal as he ended the game 3-for-3 for field goals and was a perfect 2-for-2 in extra-point chances.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Garcia-Montes led the Engineers with eight catches for 170 yards and one touchdown, while sophomore quarterback Udgam Goyal (Frisco, Texas) completed 13 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns. Robertson picked up a team-leading 83 yards on the ground as well with 20 rushing attempts.
- Defensively, senior Anthony Emberley (Longmont, Color.) picked up two interceptions on the day and senior Kodiak Brush (Yorba Linda, Calif.) led the Engineers with an eight-tackle day. For Maine Maritime, the Mariners were led by a 17-tackle performance from Cody Chapman that includes five tackles for loss in the defeat.
- At quarterback for the Mariners was Creeger who completed 4-of-15 passes for 60 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.
UP NEXT:
- MIT is back in action at home on Saturday, October 1st as the Engineers host Endicott College for a Noon start at Steinbrenner Stadium. The game marks the fourth home game in five weeks for the Engineers.
