- The Lead: In a tri-meet with Bates College and the University of Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon, the MIT men's track and field team earned 10 event wins and finished with a total of 82 points. Bates was second at 57 points, while Southern Maine placed third at 22 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Junior
Jeremiah Budiman (Plano, Texas) led the Engineers with wins in both the 60 meters and the long jump as he crossed in 7.05 seconds in the 60 and posted a jump of 22 feet, one inch in the long jump. First-year
Ian Koe (San Mateo, Calif.) took first place in the 200 meters in 22.90 seconds as he was followed in second by sophomore
Garrett Whitmore (Webster City, Iowa) with a time of 23.51 seconds.

- Graduate student
Benton Wilson (Dublin, Ohio) captured the 400 meters with a season-best time of 50.32 seconds, followed by Koe in second at 51.61 and first-year
Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas) in fourth as he crossed in 52.54 seconds.

- First-year
Pau Ilerbaig-Bajona (Toronto, Canada) won the 800 with a time of 1:58.51, along with first-year
Ziyad Hassan (Ashburn, Va.) scoring in third place at 2:00.58. First-year
Reece Shuttleworth (Arlington, Va.) took the 1,000 in 2:36.69, followed in second by senior
Matt Schofield (Shorewood, Ill.) as he crossed in 2:38.13.

- To cap off the running events, first-year
Pablo Arroyo (Richardson, Texas) won the mile in 4:27.13 and junior
Kenneth Wei (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) captured the 60-meter hurdles in 8.15 seconds, while sophomore
Raymond Brookman (Santa Cruz, Calif.) placed third in the 3,000 meters in 8:59.74.

- Seniors
William Woltmann (Secaucus, N.J.) and
Nathan Basinger (Dalton, Ohio) both scored in the shot put and weight throw, including a Woltmann victory in the shot put with a toss of 51 feet. Basinger was second in the shot at 49 feet, nine inches, along with a fourth-place performance in the weight throw at 50 feet, 11.5 inches. Woltmann placed second in the weight throw, posting a distance of 52 feet, 4.5 inches.

Steven Marquez (El Centro, Calif.) won the high jump with a clearance of six feet, 0.75 inches and the Engineers swept spots 2 through 7 in the pole vault to score with three student-athletes. First-year
Luka Srsic (Worthington, Ohio) finished second at 15 feet, one inch, while graduate student
Liam Ackerman (Miami, Fla.) finished third and senior
Everett Brandyberry (Hill City, Kan.) was fourth as both cleared 14 feet, 7.25 inches.
