- The Lead: In an incredible performance over the weekend, junior
Kenneth Wei (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) and
senior Ryan Wilson (Redwood City, Calif.) each captured individual national championships to lead the No. 11 ranked MIT men's track and field team to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED ON FRIDAY:

- In the long jump, Wei posted the winning jump of 24 feet, five inches on his fourth attempt of the day to win the event by a 4.75-inch margin. In addition, he posted the ninth-fastest time in Division III history and the MIT school record at 7.94 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to advance to Saturday's final. His hurdle time broke his own MIT record by .07 seconds.

- In the 800, Wilson finished in fourth in the prelims with a time of 1:52.01 to move on to Saturday's final. First-year
Pau Ilerbaig-Bajona (Toronto, Canada) placed 13th in his first appearance at nationals as he crossed in a time of 1:53.94.

- Graduate student
Liam Ackerman (Miami, Fla.) finished just outside of the top eight in the pole vault as he placed ninth with a clearance of 15 feet, three. Inches.

- In addition, sophomore
Henry Hardart (Annapolis, Md.) finished 14th in the prelims of the mile as he crossed with a time of 4:11.59 in his first appearance at nationals.

HOW IT HAPPENED ON SATURDAY:

- In the 60-meter hurdle finals, Wei finished third as he crossed in a time of 7.98 seconds.
- Wilson took the lead from the outset in the 800 meters final and held off
Steven Potter from Wisconsin-Oshkosh as Wilson crossed in 1:50.92 to win the event by .15 seconds. Junior
Matthew Kearney (Austin, Texas) finished 11th overall as he ran a time of 8:28.57 over the 3,000 meters.
