Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
-
Set 1: MIT jumped out to a 5-1 lead but Suffolk stayed close as an ace by
Morgan Kelsey brought the Rams within 12-10. The Engineers replied with a 6-1 run, however, the visitors narrowed the gap to 21-19 courtesy of a kill by
Jessica Weber. MIT won three of the next four points but a kill from
McKenna Keowen extended the frame. The Engineers thwarted the comeback attempt with a kill by first-year
Ali Gibbs (Chagrin Falls, Ohio).
Â
-
Set 2: The early stages were closely played as there were eight ties and two lead changes. Knotted at nine, a kill by sophomore
Lauren Keller (Albuquerque, N.M.) kicked off a string of six unanswered points by MIT. Suffolk responded with a 6-2 burst as a kill by
Grace Cervenka trimmed the deficit to 17-15. The Engineers countered with a kill by senior
Alyssa Unell (Scottsdale, Ariz.) as MIT went on to claim a 25-20 win.
Â
-
Set 3: Suffolk slowly established a 12-4 advantage after back-to-back aces by
Tatum Kalt. The Engineers chipped away at the deficit as a strong serving run by senior
Lilly Edwards (St. Louis, Mo.) that was capped by an ace, put the hosts up 17-14. A Weber kill momentarily stopped the run, however, MIT outscored the Rams, 8-4, to capture the 25-19 come-from-behind victory.
