Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 6 Tufts Tops No. 19 Field Hockey, 3-2

THE BASICS:

- Score: No. 6 Tufts University 3, No. 19 MIT 2

- Records: No. 19 MIT (2-3); No. 6 Tufts (3-0)

- Location: Medford, Mass. (Ounjian Field)

- The Lead: No. 6 Tufts University scored twice during the first four minutes of action before going on to record a 3-2 victory over No. 19 MIT in a non-conference field hockey game on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Tufts got on the board during a penalty corner after 1:33 elapsed in the game. Hannah Biccard collected the rebound of a saved shot and tapped it just inside the right post. MIT first year Ingrid Tomovski (Bosch en Duin, Netherlands) almost tallied the equalizer over a minute later, however, her shot was saved. The Jumbos countered by increasing their margin on a goal by Rachel Scrivanich that was set up by Biccard with 11:21 left in the opening frame. Tufts continued to attack as it generated seven shots, three of which were stopped by first year goalie Maeve Zimmer (Rockville, Md.).

- The Engineers ended the shutout in the 18th minute when junior Eva Oppenheim (Tiburon, Calif.) gathered the rebound of her saved shot and hit the ball to the left post where graduate student Liberty Ladd (Cornelia, Ga.) knocked it into the back of the cage. Tufts controlled the action during a four-minute span late in the second quarter as it produced five shots, two were stopped by Zimmer and one by sophomore Marisa Montione (Charlotte, N.C.), before registering what proved to be an insurance goal in the 29th minute. Claire Gavin corralled the rebound of a save shot and chipped the ball into the top right corner of the cage.

- The Jumbos tallied four shots, one on goal, and a penalty corner during the first six minutes of the third quarter. The game became a midfield battle until MIT was awarded a penalty corner, its first of the night, with just under two minutes left in the frame.

- Tufts had the upper hand for most of the fourth quarter but it was the Engineers that found the back of the cage with no time remaining. Recipients of a penalty corner with one second left, a shot by Tomovski was blocked but it resulted in another penalty corner. On the second attempt, junior Alice Zehner (Gladwyne, Pa.) sent the ball to the top of the arc and Tomovski struck it through traffic towards the left post.
